💙 Running in memory, running with love 💙

Megan recently completed an incredible 30km challenge to honour her brother Bradley, marking what would have been his 30th birthday.

Bradley was born on 20th May 1996 and sadly passed away just six days later. To celebrate his life, Megan ran 30km over those same six days.

Bradley sadly passed away just six days after being born, and to celebrate his life, Megan ran 30km over six days. On her final run, she made a deeply personal journey from Blackpool Victoria Hospital to Bradley’s place of rest, joined by her brother for the 5km run and her mum, who met them at the cemetery gates to finish together ❤️

Megan’s connection to our Neonatal Unit is deeply personal. After losing Bradley, her brother Ryan was born prematurely and is now living a healthy life thanks to the neonatal team.

Reflecting on her challenge, Megan said: “There were tough moments both physically and mentally but remembering why I was doing it gave me the strength to keep going. Throughout the challenge, I felt the true weight and purpose behind every mile and the emotion of running for my brother became a source of strength when the runs got tough. This challenge wasn’t just about the distance, it was about celebrating my brother’s life, honouring his memory, and supporting families who have experienced similar loss”.

She raised an amazing £1,475 to support families cared for on the Neonatal Unit 🙌

💙 Great Manchester Run for Haematology 💙

A huge well done to Bex and Hannah, who recently took on the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run in support of the Haematology Ward at Blackpool Victoria Hospital 🏃‍♀️

They completed the run in memory of Tom Maudsley, the brother of Bex’s friend, Becky. Becky and her family have already raised an incredible £75,000 in Tom’s memory, with all funds supporting the Haematology Ward 💙

Taking on the challenge with determination, Bex said: “Tougher than expected, but so worth it 💪🏽🏁 We crossed the finish line proud, grateful, and blown away by the support. Thank you to everyone who helped us raise funds for an amazing cause ❤️”

Together, Bex and Hannah raised an amazing £1,178, helping to make a real difference to patients and families supported by the ward. 💙

Thank you both for your fantastic effort and for supporting such a meaningful cause ✨

⚽ Football, Fundraising & Remembering a Loved One 💙

On Sunday 31 May, Lee hosted his annual football match in support of Blue Skies Hospitals Fund.

The event first began in 2019, following the sad passing of Lee’s father, George Heywood, from prostate cancer. Each year, Lee and his former teammates come together to celebrate George’s life in a truly special way 💫

Thanks to their incredible efforts, including fundraising on the day, a GoFundMe page, and donations made directly to the charity, they raised over £2,000 to help us enhance patient care.

We were delighted to welcome our newest Blue Skies Ambassador, John Holmes, to Blackpool Victoria Hospital recently 💙

John, “77 and three quarters years young” and a South Shore resident of 30 years, has already shown incredible support for the charity. During our Grand Spring Raffle, he sold an amazing 155 tickets, raising £155 🎟️

John said: “Victoria Hospital has got me through a double heart bypass in 2009 and stage 4 throat cancer in 2010. My medical record at the Vic is so big it could be used as a door stop, so it's payback time. I'm very happy to be an ambassador for Blue Skies and will do everything I can to support the charity, as they enhance patient care across our local NHS hospitals across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. Please join me”!

We’re absolutely thrilled to share that this year’s Dragon Boat Festival has raised a phenomenal £36,482.80 for Blue Skies Hospitals Fund! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who got involved, whether you took part, paddled your heart out, came along to support, or helped make the day such a success. Your energy, enthusiasm and fundraising efforts truly made waves 🌊

💙 Spreading Kindness, One Bear at a Time 🧸

A huge thank you to our incredible supporter Ernest Adams, also known as Ernie, who has been quietly spreading love and kindness throughout Blackpool Victoria Hospital and across the local community.

Ernie has now purchased over 200 Blue Skies bears, gifting them to staff, patients, family members, friends and even complete strangers 💫

Each bear is a simple but powerful gesture, bringing comfort, lifting spirits and reminding people that they are cared for, even on the toughest days.

Ernie’s kindness is a truly inspiring example of how small acts can make a big difference 💙

Thank you, Ernie, for helping us spread a little extra joy when it’s needed most.
