"Health is not just about your physical health. It's about your mental health."

That’s what a member of our Sihat group said when we were discussing Men's Health Week.

He was talking about the support the group offers, and What it means to turn up every week to exercise alongside others facing similar challenges

Men's Health Week is a reminder that looking after yourself is one of the most important things you can do, for yourself and for the people around you. Yet for many men, particularly in South Asian communities, spaces that feel relevant and accessible simply do not exist.

Our Sihat men's group creates a regular space where men can be active, be around each other and feel part of something.

To every man showing up for himself this week, however that looks, keep going.

This week is Cervical Cancer Prevention Week.

If something does not feel right, please get it checked. Early detection makes a real difference. Please share this with anyone who might need to see it.

This week our young people have been getting creative.

Our sessions are sensory friendly and open to every child. We focus on creative play, exploring new materials and enjoyment.

See for yourselves at what our young people have been making!

"I've been diabetic for 7 years and didn't know things I found out here. When we control our diet and exercise, it helps control our diabetes."

One of our Sihat participants shared this feedback after living with diabetes for seven years. She is now successfully managing her blood sugar through portion control, balanced meals, and regular movement. Thanks to our Sihat programme, her situation has changed completely.

This Diabetes Awareness Week the conversation is about stigma, and it is one worth having. In fact, 8 out of 10 people living with diabetes have faced negative attitudes because of their condition. That is a significant number, and it causes real harm to people who are already managing a difficult condition every single day.

Through Sihat, our community health and wellbeing programme, we are challenging that in Blackburn with Darwen. Sihat combines diabetes education, healthy eating advice and physical activity sessions in a supportive, judgement-free space.

Week 1 of Skills Start is a wrap!

This is a five-week programme for young people aged 16 to 24 from South Asian backgrounds who are currently not in education, employment or training (NEET). One in eight young people in the UK are NEET and Skills Start exists to change that locally.

This week, 27 young people joined us at our Audley Hub to work on professionalism and transferable skills. The kind of foundations that make a real difference when you are starting out: how to present yourself, how to communicate and how to carry yourself in a workplace setting.

Over the coming weeks they will also get the chance to connect with local employers and mentors for real insight into the world of work. By the end of the programme, they will be confident, informed and ready to take the next step into employment.

We are looking forward to sharing what this group achieves.

This we’re celebrating our 12 volunteers who have given a combined 863 hours of their time, showing up for 309 people across our programmes. The young people they support made appreciation cards, and we ended the week Volunteers Week by taking everyone out for a meal.

Good food, great people and a proper chance to say thank you for everything they pour into IMO Charity.

To every one of our volunteers: thank you. You are the heart of what we do.

‘It was an easy transition because of the support you get from all the staff.’

We spoke to one of our team members who first joined IMO Charity as a volunteer and is now a valued member of our staff.

He shared a little about his journey and what volunteering has meant to him along the way.

Give it a watch, and feel free to share it with someone who might be thinking about volunteering.
