Free Cakes for Kids - Blackburn with Darwen

Free Cakes for Kids - Blackburn with Darwen is a volunteer run service to families in our community The service is completely free, friendly and confidential.

Free Cakes for Kids – Blackburn with Darwen baked their first cake for a local family in need in February 2013. Since then we have baked and delivered over 500 birthday cakes to local children. Free Cakes For Kids – Blackburn with Darwen is a community service to families who find it difficult to provide a birthday cake for their child. Our volunteers bake homemade, personalised birthday cakes wit

h the child's favourite theme or style. Free Cakes For Kids is an entirely voluntary project, and therefore we rely completely on the hard work and contribution of our volunteers. Our main aim is to put a smile on the face of a child and give them a birthday to remember. We work primarily through 'partner' organisations such as children's centres, refugee organisations, young carers projects, that can recommend our service to the families they know are experiencing hardship and would struggle to provide a birthday cake for their child. This helps us to ensure that our services are reaching the people that need us most.

🎂 At Free Cakes for Kids, we provide homemade birthday cakes for children who may not otherwise receive one, helping to make birthdays feel special and celebrated 💛

Many of the cakes we bake come through referrals from organisations and community groups we work closely with, across Blackburn with Darwen and the surrounding areas. These partnerships help us reach families who would benefit most from a little extra support.

🎂 This joyful cake was baked by new volunteer Jade for a little girl celebrating her 8th birthday 💛

Alongside the colourful cake decorations and sprinkles, Jade also included some thoughtful gifts and treats for the birthday girl to keep and enjoy, including sunglasses, jewellery, make-up and a pen.

Referred to us by our friends at Darwen Asylum Refugee Enterprise - DARE, we hope this helped make her birthday feel extra special.

🎮 Roblox is one of the most popular cake themes we receive requests for from children at the moment!

This fantastic Roblox cake was baked by Melanie for a boy turning 12 after a referral from our friends at Darwen Asylum Refugee Enterprise - DARE . We had also recently baked for his sibling, so it was lovely to be able to help celebrate another birthday within the family.

🎂 A dream cake for a chocolate-loving teenager 🍫

This three-layer chocolate sponge cake, filled and decorated with chocolate and vanilla buttercream and topped with lots of favourite chocolates, was baked by Claire for a boy celebrating his 13th birthday.

He was referred to us by our friends at Darwen Asylum Refugee Enterprise - DARE , and it was especially lovely to be able to support another child from a family we had recently baked for.

🎂 This amazing Superman cake was baked by volunteer Emily for a little boy celebrating his 3rd birthday 💙

Referred to us by our friends at Darwen Asylum Refugee Enterprise - DARE, the birthday boy requested a superhero-themed cake, and Emily did a fantastic job bringing Superman to life.

A huge thank you to Emily for helping to make his birthday feel extra special. We love seeing the care and creativity our volunteer bakers put into every cake 💛

🎂 “I have a red dress and I want a red cake please.”

This was the message we received from a very confident young lady who was turning 11, and we couldn’t say no to that! ❤️

She was very clear about what she wanted (including her name on the cake), and it was a joy to bring her idea to life.

This recent cake was inspired by a design the family shared with us. And with a Valentine’s Day birthday, hearts were the perfect finishing touch.

This pretty cake was baked for a girl referred to us by Darwen Asylum Refugee Enterprise - DARE

It was lovely to meet the girl and her mother when we delivered the cake and we are looking forward to baking for her brother very soon.

This beautiful black and gold cake was made for a young girl celebrating her 10th birthday.

While we were arranging everything, we received the sweetest voicemail messages from her making sure we knew exactly what she liked. She was incredibly polite and thoughtful, and it really made us smile.

When we delivered the cake, she answered the door herself. We don’t always get to meet the children who receive our cakes, so it’s always a lovely moment when we can say hello and hand over the cake in person.
