Free Cakes for Kids - Blackburn with Darwen is a volunteer run service to families in our community The service is completely free, friendly and confidential.

Free Cakes for Kids – Blackburn with Darwen baked their first cake for a local family in need in February 2013. Since then we have baked and delivered over 500 birthday cakes to local children. Free Cakes For Kids – Blackburn with Darwen is a community service to families who find it difficult to provide a birthday cake for their child. Our volunteers bake homemade, personalised birthday cakes with the child's favourite theme or style. Free Cakes For Kids is an entirely voluntary project, and therefore we rely completely on the hard work and contribution of our volunteers. Our main aim is to put a smile on the face of a child and give them a birthday to remember. We work primarily through 'partner' organisations such as children's centres, refugee organisations, young carers projects, that can recommend our service to the families they know are experiencing hardship and would struggle to provide a birthday cake for their child. This helps us to ensure that our services are reaching the people that need us most.

Our newest volunteer baker, Helen, has baked her very first cake for Free Cakes for Kids - Blackburn with Darwen, and what a chocolatey creation it was!

Made for a little girl celebrating her birthday, the cake was topped with all sorts of chocolatey treats, including Freddos, Curly Wurlys and Smarties.

The request came through our friends at Darwen Asylum Refugee Enterprise - DARE, and we're delighted that Helen enjoyed baking her first cake with us.

A big thank you to Helen for joining our wonderful team of volunteers and helping make sure another child didn't have to go without a birthday cake.
