Exciting news today for Blooming Birtley. We have been chosen by Dobbies, Birtley to be the beneficiary of their community gardening award this year. We have been given credit to spend in store, on plants and any sundry items we need. This is going to make a positive difference to our planting. Look out for more colour from new plants in the next few months. Four of us were able to attend today and receive the award from manager Mike. Thank you so much to Dobbies Birtley for supporting us this year. Very much appreciated 😊

Thank you so much to Steve Robinson, heating engineer, who runs a Birtley based business. He made a cash donation to Blooming Birtley whilst working at one of our volunteers homes. So kind and very much appreciated 😊 It just goes to show that there are some very generous and community minded residents who appreciate the time and effort put in by volunteers.

Five volunteers out this morning tidying and watering the containers along Birtley High Street and outside the library. Lots of water required after the warmer weather over the last few days. Some of the perennials are starting to bloom as the tulips are fading.

Our volunteers were in out in the last couple of days refreshing our containers on the corner of Station Lane and at Birtley Library. Dead heading daffodils and adding primrose's and pansies. Blue and deep pink is the current colour theme in late Spring 🌷

The tulips that were planted last autumn are now in full display at the top of Newcastle Bank. Also, in the raised bed that junctions with Long Bank, we have gorgeous tulips, white narcissi, hyacinths and more. Just lovely. Makes volunteering worthwhile. Thanks to the volunteers of Blooming Birtley for their hard work and planning.
