Today we were able to get on the water at our new boat station. Our unit staff have been working extremely hard in the background to get things prepped for us. A huge thank you to our 1st LT CPO Barrett for the efforts to get the groundwork, fencing, concreting and everything else prepped down there. Its looking fantastic. A huge thank you to our Unit Management team and our unit chair, Mrs Holmes, for the huge amount of fundraising over the last few months to make this happen. This shows a how powerful teamwork is.
TS Duchess is going from strength to strength.

BZ everyone!

Last night we did a site induction at our new boating lake! We are still putting the final touches in and awaiting paperwork to get on the water, so we ended the night with a whole unit rounders match!

We cant wait to build a future here for all of our cadets. It is a great location with lots of opportunities.

This week is national volunteers week.

TS Duchess is run purely by volunteers.

Cadets may parade 2 nights a week and then go away on the odd course here and there, but thats not where the volunteers work ends. There are constant emails, phone calls, messages between unit staff, district staff, the wider sea cadet family, the committee. The list goes on. This is all while holding down full time jobs, families and outside hobbies. There are many 11pm phone calls, phone calls from hospitals, emails and phone calls during work or holidays.

Being a volunteer is the hardest, most thankless task. Everything done in the shadows. Honestly... it can be utterly exhausting. Some people question why we do it... we do it for that buzz when you see a cadet go through adversity and come out the other side. You do it for that cadet that doesn't fit in else where. You do it to give these cadets an opportunity that they never would have been given a chance to do.

So thank you to all the volunteers who help make TS Duchess what it is. A fantastic place for cadets and adults to develop.

Congratulations to 2 of our cadets who have been away at a Surrey District Sea Cadets DMACT and have achieved their intermediate drill qualification. This is the stepping stone to their cadet drill instructor qualification.... an exciting times for cadets at TS Duchess!

Go rest them aching feet and arms it is well deserved!

Rifle drill is used within the sea cadets to teach teamwork, commitment and self-discipline. The rifles used and for parade purpose only.

To all our cadets sitting or having sat exams recently.....

Exams do not define you. The results on the piece of paper you receive are only a fraction of who you are.

Success in life is not just measured on your exam results. Success comes down to your little wins.

Sir Richard Branson: The billionaire Virgin Group founder left school at 16 with no qualifications whatsoever

Lord Alan Sugar: The Apprentice star and Amstrad founder left school at 16 with just one GCSE.

Remember to breathe.
Remember there is always another way. Remember we are all unbelievably proud of you here at TS Duchess no matter the outcomes.
