We are part of the Friends of the Earth Local Action Groups Network. As a non-political group, our first concern is the climate emergency.

As part of Friends of the Earth Local Action Groups Network., we are a local voluntary group, raising awareness of climate change, and taking action in the Berwick area to improve the environment. We aim to work with other environmental groups and engage with people, organisations and businesses locally in the fight to become net-zero, share ideas and empower individuals and organisations in lobbying and identifying local relevant issues. Climate knows no borders, no colours, no parties. It affects us all, no matter who we are or where we are from. We organise events to inform about climate change, and what can be done to combat it both in general, but also with a specific emphasis on the locality of the Berwick area. Friends of the Earth (England and Wales) have a climate action plan that has a strategy of lobbying government to greatly improve their zero carbon aspirations and actions.

JOIN THE MARCH - STOP AI DATA CENTRES🚨

On Saturday 14th November community campaigners, organisations and people all across Scotland will head to the Royal Mile in Edinburgh to make our voices heard on AI data centres – we need you to join us!

Developers want to build monster data centres across Scotland and sell them on to big US tech companies – there are over 20 already proposed and more in the pipeline.

These massive developments would demand twice as much electricity as Scotland’s peak usage, and have huge consequences for our energy bills, water, health, communities, climate and nature.

Decisions on AI data centres should be led by the people, not by Big Tech profits. The people of Scotland must have a say on how our public resources are used.

No one voted for AI data centres. Where was this discussion in the Holyrood elections?

This goes beyond planning guidance. We need a national conversation about the rollout of AI and data centres before any decisions are made. This is an issue that affects us all.

Hold a UK-wide public consultation on the environmental impacts of AI data centres, including whether further expansion should be restricted, paused or halted until impacts on wildlife, habitats, water, energy use, emissions, land and local communities are properly understood and addressed in full.
