On a very humid Thursday afternoon last week we held the Little Gaddesden WI AGM, in the President’s lovely garden. Considering it was half-term and extremely hot, we had a good turnout of 24 members. Following the voting in of the committee for a further year, Lynne was presented with the President’s Cup for all the effort she has put in this year (hopefully, she will remember to polish it before giving it back next year!). Next, we enjoyed tea, with scones and cake, and a Quiz of vegetable and fruit names (A-Z). It was amazing how many unusual names were put forward, but many common names won the point as everyone thought someone else would mention them. Another very enjoyable event! Well done, ladies.

On Thursday 14th May, Little Gaddesden WI hosted the Ashridge Group of WIs for a day of food and entertainment. Members from Bovingdon, Boxmoor WI, Potten End, Wiggington and Little Gaddesden enjoyed a tasty lunch of baked salmon and coronation chicken, served with warm new potatoes and salad.
After lunch, there were guided tours of the church and along the green, a craft table, a history display, and plants for sale from Four Acres Garden Nursery. The competition was a tray arrangement representing each WI village.
Following tea, scones and Victoria sponge, members were entertained by a Ukulele band and dancing ensued. Each WI contributed to making the day especially enjoyable, and thanks go to everyone who helped and supported the event by coming along.

On Thursday 16th April our meeting will be a writing workshop run by Morgan Bailey. It's an open meeting, so guests are welcome to join us for a donation of £5 (which includes refreshments). The competition is "a book I love". Looking forward to seeing all budding authors on Thursday.

On 17th March six LGWI members enjoyed a lively, colourful talk by Kaffe (rhymes with safe) Fassette at the Memorial Hall in Wheathampstead (organised by Hertfordshire Federation of Women's Institutes - thank you!). The 88 year old artist entertained us with the story of how he got started in his career in art and textiles and showed us beautiful examples of his work. He has an exhibition coming up shortly at London’s Saatchi Gallery. Perhaps we can organise a trip? Anyone interested?
