Little Egret fishing near the Wides. Interesting technique, stamping those big yellow feet into the mud and plants to drive out the fish. Apparently, the feet and lower legs have evolved that way because it camouflages them amongst the reeds.

Remarkable thing is I was only 3-4 metres away on the opposite bank, along with all the ramblers and dog walkers. This magnificent bird was not fazed at all. Perhaps this experience is some reassurance to all of our supporters and visitors who fear restoring the canal will adversely affect wildlife
