Hi friends of TABS. We are reaching out to our network to see if we can get in touch with a donor who recently gave us a generous donation for Year 9 books. We are not including a name just in case this person would like to stay anonymous, but if this was you, or you know who this was, please get in touch with us as we would like to say Thank You personally.

Day 5 Fri 20th - our last day
Today was extremely hot for us mzungu's πŸ˜…. We spent the morning on the land that will become our upper secondary school. We have been able to add another small plot to the site, and this was the first time we'd seen it. The whole area is now 5.4 acres, which is plenty of space for all our future plans.
We prayed over the spot that has been identified by the Hydro-geological survey as the best place to drill by our partners Drilling For Life. The drilling should be starting in the next few days. After visiting the Cheif of the region on the way back which was a real honour, we then spent the later afternoon in the school in Kiandutu. We were blessed with a range of performerances form the children...singing, dancing, poetry, drama, and educational progressing. What a joy πŸ₯°

Day 4 Thurs 19th
Today was a very special day, it was our project manager Moses Nganga Birthday! We took a bit of time out from all the work, and as a Birthday treat, we went to Nairobi National Park as Moses had never visited. We were under strict instructions to deliver him back to the school for 1pm, as they had a birthday surprise planned for him. Moses is truly loved by all the staff and children in the school. The impact he has had, is immeasurable!
Don't worry, it wasn't all fun, we got down to some serious planning work back at the hotel in the evening!

Day 3 Wed 18th
Another fabulous day today! We spent all day in Kiandutu, firstly visiting the new location of our partner church Vision and Victory, which is just a short walk from Springs Tabs School.
Then we met with our Senior teacher Alice Mbeke who has been leading on the SEN work in the school and making brilliant progress πŸ‘ A special thanks to Alice for her passion and commitment to this work on top of everything she does!
Lastly we met with all the staff in the project to thank them for their dedication, and so they could share with us their achievements and difficulties over the last year. Teaching is hard job in any country, but Teaching somewhere like Kiandutu brings a completely different set of challenges! We are grateful for and blessed to have them πŸ™

Day 2, Tues 17th Feb
Today we held our annual joint Trustee meeting with TABS Kenya and representatives from TABS International. It's always such a joy and a privilege to be able to get together as a team. Everything we do in Kenya is through our TABS Kenya board, they are so wise and dedicated to the project, we are blessed with this partnership. From left to right George Karuku TABS Kenya treasurer; Jennifer Beckett TABS International Trustee; Ian Mwiti TABS Kenya project lead; Ellen Sanders TABS International Chair; Luke Jakoywa TABS Kenya Chair; Clare Sanders TABS International Treasurer; Simon Kamande TABS Kenya Secretary; Moses Nganga Springs Tabs School Project Manager.
Obviously we had to fit in an obligatory visit to the beautiful Thika waterfalls as its Ed's first visit to Kenya!

Day 1, Mon 16th
Thankfully Jennifer Beckett and Ed arrived safely in the morning after a 48hr journey πŸ™ Bound to snags as my Dad used to say!
Clare Sanders and I visited Drilling For Life with Springs Tabs School project manager Moses, and TABS Kenya trustees George Karuku and Ianson Mwiti. The Hydro-geological survey for drilling on the new land has been completed and we were discussing plans for phase 2 of the drill for water! This is so exciting, stay tuned for further updates this week 😬
We then visited the school to say high to the staff and children, and will be spending more time there later in the week. A very good start to our trip πŸ‘Œ

*A good start for the year*
Insufficient desks has been a challenging problem in the primary school level.
This is because of our high number of learner's 600+ with some having to sit 4 learner's to a single desk.
We are now locally making desks in the project, which will improve the sharing ration. Today we made 18 😊 the target is 70 new desks!

*Amazing work in charity*. A picture of junior school learners happily receiving their locker desks and chairs.
Did you know that in Kenya most schools require learner's to buy their own when joining. Through your donations, it helps a parent who can't afford it this, thereby reducing inequality in the society in the long run. By making the project resourceful, we have been able to achieve most targets, both in academic and social outreach.

Small follow up on project beneficiaries is bearing good fruitsπŸ‘
In 2022, we were not able to offer any secondary education, so Springs tabs school tried it hardest to help as many students as possible get scholarships and funding to progress. These are 4 of our ulumni students who have since achieved great results in their end of school KJSEA exams - 68 out of 72 points, and have a bright future ahead of them!

Due to the support of our Friends of TABS network, we are now providing the first 3 years of Junior Secondary education to the community in Kiandutu, and our plan is to be able offer the full academic journey in the near future. Thanks to everyone :-)
