A fantastic afternoon today at SM Boxing and fitness 🥊

Our support workers Shaun and Donald joined residents from Homeless Action alongside clients from Social Inclusion Through Sport CICl for a brilliant session focused on fitness, wellbeing and community spirit.

Activities like this are so important for both physical and mental health, giving everyone the opportunity to socialise, build confidence, reduce stress and support one another in a positive environment.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for making today such a welcoming and uplifting session 💙

On Tuesday, three residents enjoyed a fantastic day out at American Golf in Sunderland ⛳️
They were joined by our new support worker, making the trip even more special. Everyone had a brilliant time practicing their swings, sharing plenty of laughs, and soaking up the experience together.
The day didn’t stop there — they also enjoyed some delicious fish and chips followed by a lovely walk along the seafront 🌊
A great day all around, and we’re already looking forward to the next outing! 😊

🥗☀️ As the colder months become a distant memory and we head into the warmer days ahead, there’s nothing better than fresh, delicious and nutricious food!

These photos show multiple portions of Kieran the chef’s famous Caesar salad, which he regularly prepares for our Blackpool hostels and as always, this salad is always a huge hit with both residents and staff, and it’s easy to see why.

Fresh, filling, and full of flavour, it’s the perfect meal for this time of year when lighter, healthier dishes are especially welcome.

A big thank you to Kieran for continuing to put so much care into the meals he makes every week, it really does make a difference. 💙

Some of our residents from Elm House recently took part in another therapeutic activity in the community, this time at Stanley Park Sports Centre in partnership with Active Blackpool.

The session included a range of activities such as badminton, table tennis and football, giving everyone the opportunity to get active, try something different, and focus on improving their mood, mental health and overall wellbeing. The day was organised by support worker Leesa, who also transported and accompanied residents to the session.

It was great to see everyone getting involved, encouraging each other, and enjoying being active outside of the hostel environment. Activities like this help build confidence, improve fitness, and give residents the chance to socialise in a positive setting.

Some of the feedback from the group included:

💬 “It was really good to get out and do something active.”
💬 “I haven’t done anything like this since I was a kid, so I’m really grateful for the chance to do it again.”
💬 “Playing badminton and table tennis made me realise how unfit I am, but it’s encouraged me to get out walking more.”

Since the session, some residents have already started getting out more and being more active, which is fantastic to see.

Well done to everyone who took part, and thank you to Leesa and Active Blackpool for helping make the day happen. 🏸👏

Today at Elm House Hostel, Homeless Action staff were joined by Lianne from Renaissance UK, who delivered Naloxone training to our team, with some residents also choosing to attend.

During the session, we were shown the two different types of Naloxone and how to administer them, one nasal and one injectable We were taught the signs to look out for in the event of a suspected opiod overdose, along with the correct actions to take. The training was enjoyable, informative, and gave staff and residents the knowledge and confidence that could help save lives and prevent deaths caused by accidental overdose.

A big thank you to Lianne for delivering this free training, it is greatly appreciated and will make a real difference to the safety of both staff and residents at Elm House.

The training was delivered in partnership with Renaissance and Horizon, Blackpool’s alcohol and substance misuse and recovery services.

If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction or substance misuse, support is available from local experts. Please use the links below to get in touch:

Another positive move on from Oak House 👏

Peter has been a resident at Oak House, our hostel run by Homeless Action, since May 2025. When he first arrived, Peter had already spent two years homeless, often sleeping in Stanley Park or spending nights in Victoria Hospital just to keep warm. Despite this, he was always clear about his goal — to live independently in his own flat.

Oak House gave Peter the security and confidence he needed to begin a new chapter in his life. He put in the work, by engaging with staff and external agencies and asked for support.

While living at Oak House, Peter built his confidence and developed important life skills such as cooking, cleaning and budgeting, knowing these would help him succeed when the time came to manage his own tenancy.

Today, Peter collected the keys to his new flat in Blackpool and has begun the next chapter of his life. He told manager Mark C and support worker Mark B, he is grateful for the support he received during his time at Oak House and for the opportunity to rebuild his independence.

Everyone at Homeless Action is proud of the commitment Peter has shown, and we wish him all the best in his new home. 🏡🔑

On the 24th of February some of our residents from Elm House took part in a therapeutic activity out in the community, organised by support worker Leesa, who also transported and accompanied the residents on the day.

The group visited Q’s Sports Lounge Snooker Club on Lytham Road for a game of snooker, giving everyone the chance to take part in an activity outside of the hostel to help improve mood, mental health and overall wellbeing. Activities like this are a great way to encourage residents to try something different, build confidence, and spend time socialising in a relaxed environment.

It was also really positive to see residents chatting in pairs while playing, getting to know each other better away from the hostel setting, and enjoying some music together on the journey, with plenty of singing along in the car! 🎵

Some of the feedback from the group included:

💬 “It’s good to get out of the hostel and enjoy something different. It helped me relax and enjoy some quiet time.”
💬 “I haven’t played snooker for over 20 years, and I used to really enjoy it.”
💬 “It was nice getting to know the person I was playing with away from the hostel.”
💬 “I might moan a bit, but I did enjoy it really!”

Everyone said they would love to go again, and all reported feeling happier and calmer after the session.

Well done to everyone involved, and thank you to Leesa for organising such a positive day. 🎱👏
