Bedworth Community Bikes Welcome to Bedworth Community Bikes, where we accept donations of old and unused bikes, refurbish and give them a new lease of life.

We then sell them with all proceeds going to charity.

We hope everyone in Coventry enjoys watching the football this summer, experiencing the highs (and lows) of the games.

Win or lose, it is never ok to take your feelings out on those around you, whether you're out in pubs with friends or at home with family.

If you think that the result of any games will affect your behaviour and the way you act around your loved ones though, it’s time to get help.

Whether you have experienced abuse, witnessed abuse or are worried about your own behaviour, there is help available. Find out more about some of the local, regional and national services available in the West Midlands in the link below

Here they are. The first batch of refurbished bikes.

All have been checked over and test ridden (if possible) to make sure everything works. Some have had things replaced like tyres, inner tubes, grips etc.

All information on each bike is in the picture caption, including price. The price spilt shows how much we donate to charity and how much will cover our costs.

Donations will go to Coventry Haven Women's Aid via our JustGiving page.

If you are unsure on sizing, please see the pinned comment on our page about bike sizing.

If your interested in any of the bikes, please message me.

I am often messaged with people asking "my child is 6, do you have any bikes that will fit?" or something along those lines. Unfortunately, bike sizes are sometimes not that simple, especially when it comes to kids sizing. There are so many factors at play like height, age, inseam, arm length etc, that sometimes I just can't recommend a certain size of bike.

Below are a kids and adults size chart I've created as a starting point to help you see if a certain bike will fit. Ive tried to include as much information as possible to help with selecting the right bike but with so many variables, nothing will beat sitting and trying a bike.

One of the only bike types that doesn't conform to the sizing chart below is BMXs. BMX frames are purposefully small, to allow ease of movement for tricks. A full size BMX will run 20 inch wheels, with smaller BMXs coming with 18 inch and 16 inch wheels.

Coventry Haven Women’s Aid supports women and children in Coventry who are being subjected to domestic abuse through refuge, helpline, outreach and specialist support services.

Football does not cause domestic abuse. Abuse is a choice. But during major tournaments, services often see increased reports of domestic abuse.

Would you look at that...

Not only have I sold Bedworth Community Bikes first refurbished bike and donated the profits to charity, we have also received our very first monetary donation.

It may not be much now, but from tiny acorns do mighty oaks grow.

The bike was sold by word of mouth, mainly because I am still in the process of compiling photos and details on the first batch of bikes.

If you are in the market for a bike but dont want to buy brand new, hit me up and I can probably help you out. Which also helps me raise money for Coventry Haven Women's Aid.

*Maintenance advice*

If you are storing a bike for long periods of time, please do 1 single thing...

Keep the tyres pumped up. Even if you don't use it.

Take a look at the pictures below. Picture 1 shows what could be a brand new BMX tyre fitted to one of the bikes that I had donated. It really was in good condition. But as I do, I gave it a proper inspection and found a massive split, in picture 2. This was from the tyre slowly deflating over time and resting on the tyre. The rubber of the tyre dries out and cracks. If you don't spot the crack, inflate and ride, you could experience a blown out that could cause massive injury.

So if you do anything to a stored bike, make it keeping the tyres inflated.

This also goes for cars, wheelbarrows or anything with pneumatic tyres.

The more you know.

Next step complete.

I have now created our own Just Giving page, linked to Coventry Haven Women's Aid.

This allows us to track all donations and gives us an overall total too. We can also take one off donations outside of bike sales.

I don't have a definitive goal in mind, I just want to raise as much as I can for an amazing cause.

Remember, every bike donated helps create a positive chain of events:

🚲 An unwanted bike is saved from landfill.

🚲 A refurbished bike helps someone access affordable cycling.

🚲 The proceeds help support women and children through Coventry Haven Women's Aid.

Another huge donation for the cause.

This time, its a bunch of new old stock BMXs. They just need a few new parts to complete and they'll be ready to rock.

Just in time for Bedworths new skate park.

Thats some more bikes picked up.

At this point, I've got to start wondering if getting a van is going to be more beneficial going forward.

I dont want to give up my car, its brilliant for what it is. But constantly getting bikes in and out is going to eventually destroy the interior.

Having a van will also help with getting bikes to sales events.

We'll see what happens.

πŸŽ‰ 100 Followers! πŸŽ‰

A huge thank you to everyone who has followed, shared, donated bikes, and supported Bedworth Community Bikes so far.

What started as a simple idea to give unwanted bikes a second life is already growing into something special, and this is just the beginning.

Every follow, share, and donation helps us get more people cycling, reduce waste, and raise money for local causes.

Thank you for being part of the journey. 🚲❀️
