🏔️ Bedford MC’s Highland Summer Trip –Recap! 🌞
What a week in the Scottish Highlands! Our summer trip was a huge success, with the Alex MacIntyre Memorial Hut providing a perfect base for walking and climbing in Glencoe and Ben Nevis. 🏡✨
From rock climbing in Glen Nevis 🧗‍♀️ to big mountain days and classic scrambles, the team packed in some incredible days:
• Pap of Glencoe ⛰️
• Bidean nam Bian via the Lost Valley & Stob Coire Lochan 🏞️
• Buachaille Etive Beag circuit 🚶‍♂️
• Ben Nevis via CMD Arete – 1700m ascent over 17km… a monster day! 💪
• Ben Nevis Tourist Route – completed in great time 👏
• West Highland Way section via the Devil’s Staircase (sadly no views!) 🌫️
There was also a “rest day” involving Fort William’s whisky & outdoor shops 🥃🛒… a risky combination.
Even when the weather turned, spirits stayed high. Two teams attempted the Ballachulish Horseshoe, but deteriorating conditions (and one boot failure!) meant a tactical retreat. Still, a day in the hills is never wasted. 🌧️❤️
Notable moments:
🚗 A local driving into Chris’s car on arrival at the hut - no injuries!
🌧️ Frank reaching the top of Lairig Gartain before realising he’d forgotten his waterproof
🎣 Lucy getting up at 04:30 to go fishing.

Top tips for future trips here:
Total metres ascended matters more than distance – don’t underestimate it!
Start early for daylight and parking

Huge thanks to everyone who joined: Alan, Boksoon, Cameron, Chris, Danny, Erik, Frank, Keith, Lucy, Matt, Sarah & Sam. What a brilliant week! 🙌

Social Recap 🥳
Good to see everyone last night, and apologies again for the late change of venue! 🙈 We had a lively discussion about this month’s Scotland trip 🏴 with plenty of debate around objectives with those that are in ✔️ and some that are definitely out ❌.
Ben Nevis 🏔️ with multiple route options is firmly in the former, and for some reason Aonach Eagach ridge 😬 appears to be in the latter. This may be due to the committing nature of the ridge, the Grade 3 scrambling 🧗‍♂️ and the exposure. We will have to see!
For those not going to Scotland, our next social is at The Embankment 🍻 on Wednesday, 1st July from 8:00pm. Hope to see you there!

Exmoor Weekend Recap Not much sunshine, but a brilliant two days exploring the moors, coast and classic Exmoor scenery by way of a new club meet venue.
Fri: sunshine 🌤️ Sat: low cloud & light drizzle ☁️ Sun: sun + heavy coastal showers 🌦️
Activities: Walks included treks to Dunkery Beacon, Withypool Moor, Tarr Steps (via Two Moors Way/Exe Valley Way), Valley of the Rocks & Lynton cliffs (South Coast Path), and Dunster.

Great to see such a brilliant turnout at The Embankment last night — thanks to everyone who came along, lots of familiar faces and at least one new one. There was a cracking atmosphere and we will be back there on Wednesday 3 June to chat about the big Scotland meet in Ballachulish later in June. But first up… Exmoor 15-17 May!
