No shortage of Trafalgar celebrations going on this weekend. Do join us at one of them.

Trafalgar commemorations continue in Nelson's County this weekend including on Sunday 25 October:

El Alamein/Trafalgar Service at Honingham Church 1100 (standards muster at 1030).

Trafalgar Parade, South East District Sea Cadets, in Norwich commencing at 1300.

This is the ‘flagship’ event of the Sea Cadet Corps year. After inspection the parade will march off from the Cathedral at 1335 taking a route through Norwich past the Saluting Dias near Norwich Market and on to St Peter Mancroft Church where supporters are welcome to join the service there at 1400.

Trafalgar Day Service, Burnham Thorpe 1500.

The annual service at the church in Burnham Thorpe followed by tea and cake in the village hall.

HAPPY TRAFALGAR DAY.🥃🥃

On this day in 1805, the Royal Navy took on the combined forces of the French and Spanish fleet off of the cape of Trafalgar, Spain.

The Royal Navy had 33 ships, ~17,282 Sailors and Marines.

The French had 18 ships of the line and eight others, ~13,886 Sailors and Marines.

Spain had 15 ships of the line, ~11,927 Sailors and Marines.

Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson famously said, "ENGLAND EXPECTS THAT EVERY MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY," and that they did.

At around 1pm, admiral Nelson was shot by a sniper and the bullet went through his left shoulder then into his lower spine. Shortly before he died he was told of the victory over the combined fleet. His dying words were recorded by surgeon William Beatty as, "god and my country". He died at 4:30pm. Nelson's body was placed in a cask of brandy mixed with camphor and myrrh, which was then lashed to the Victory's mainmast and placed under guard. He was given a state funeral at St. Paul's cathedral.

The Royal Navy loses were 458 dead, 1,208 wounded, Total: 1,666.

The French losses was 10 ships captured,
1 ship destroyed, 3,373 dead, 1,155 wounded, Over 4,000 captured.

Spanish losses, 11 ships captured, 1,022 dead, 1,386 wounded 3,000–4,000 captured.

In total: about 15,000.
