Angela Rayner, the architect of Labour’s “grey belt” policy and the huge uplift in housing targets facing rural areas, is back in charge of the Housing Department.

I sincerely hope her time away has given her a greater appreciation of rural England, but I won’t be holding my breath.

We need more homes, but concreting over our countryside is not the answer. Once green fields are built on, they are gone forever.

We will continue to hold this Government to account and fight for a housing policy that:
✅puts brownfield land first
✅brings empty homes back into use
✅ ensures development is supported by roads, schools, GPs and other vital infrastructure especially sewerage and drainage which has been a real issue locally
✅ protects the character of our towns, villages and rural communities

Housing must be delivered in the right places, with the right infrastructure, not imposed at the expense of the countryside.

Once it is built on, it is gone.

More houses to be built, although the new hospital at Leightonwill have 20 more beds than the original. Thats not including the patients being treated in corridors!
