🌿 Community Volunteer Days Coming to Audley Parish! 🌿

Audley Rural Parish Council (ARPC) is pleased to announce the launch of a new programme of volunteer sessions aimed at helping improve and enhance areas across our Parish that would benefit from a little extra care and attention. πŸ‘

Our first volunteer session will take place on Saturday 4th July at the Coal Truck in Alsagers Bank (adjacent to The Gresley Arms). πŸš‚πŸŒ±

This will be the first of a number of community improvement projects that we hope to organise across the Parish in the coming months, bringing residents together to help keep our local area looking its best. 🏑✨

To ensure that all activities are planned safely and effectively, anyone wishing to volunteer is asked to register their interest with the Parish Clerk in advance by email - [email protected]. This will allow us to make appropriate arrangements, assess requirements and ensure the correct resources are available on the day. πŸ“§

Whether you can spare an hour or a morning, your support would be greatly appreciated. Together, we can continue to make Audley Parish a place we can all be proud of. πŸ’š

For more information or to register your interest, please contact the Parish Clerk by email.

Please see below advice from Staffordshire Police regarding swimming outdoors. Please also note there are 'No Swimming' signs at the entrance and on the island at Leddys Field pond for good reason, and also you should not swim at Bateswood or Cloggers Pool due to unseen dangers.

Dangerous waters

As temperatures rise, swimming outdoors can seem like the perfect way to cool down. But swimming in open water β€” like rivers, lakes, reservoirs are extremely dangerous.

The Child Death Review Team has reported that teenagers are proportionately more likely to lose their lives to drowning
when temperatures exceed 25C, so it’s vital that everyone knows the risks associated with open water swimming.

If you work with children and families, or if you care for any children, make sure you’re sharing guidance on how to stay safe with them.

Know the Risk Factors:

- Cold Water Shock
Even on a hot day, open water can be cold enough to cause a sudden, involuntary gasp for air, muscle cramps, and panic. This reaction, known as cold water shock, can quickly overwhelm even confident swimmers.

- Strong Currents
Fast-moving water, tides, or undercurrents can easily sweep swimmers away β€” often faster than they can react or escape. These forces are unpredictable and can be fatal.

- Hidden Hazards
Open water often hides submerged rocks, rubbish, sudden drops, tangled weeds, and other unseen dangers. These can cause injury, entrapment, or panic.

Advice for Parents and Young People:
Avoid swimming in open water unless it’s a designated, lifeguarded area.

Talk openly to young people about the dangers and encourage them to think before entering the water.

Encourage safe alternatives like swimming pools or organized water activities with supervision.

Staying safe doesn’t mean missing out on fun β€” it means making informed, smart choices when it comes to water.

Audley Rural Parish Council (ARPC) is incredibly proud to see two fantastic community projects, both supported by the Parish Council and led by local councillors and volunteers, being showcased on BBC Radio Stoke next week. πŸ“»πŸ‘

BBC Radio Stoke recently visited the area and were hugely impressed by the passion, commitment and community spirit behind both projects. As a result, interviews with councillors and volunteers will feature on Paula White’s show, helping shine a spotlight on the amazing work taking place right here in our Parish. 🌟

🌿 Leddy’s Field will be featured on 25th May.

The project, supported by dedicated volunteers and local councillors, continues to improve and maintain this important green space for both wildlife and residents. Volunteers regularly carry out environmental works, habitat improvements and conservation activities to help preserve the area for future generations. πŸ¦†πŸŒ±

β›ͺ Audley St James Church Yard Clean Up Project will then be featured on 29th May.

This volunteer-led initiative has brought together residents, councillors and community groups to help restore pride in the church yard and tackle areas that had become overgrown and difficult to maintain. πŸ’š Recent clean-up events have seen volunteers giving up their time to clear pathways, tidy graves and improve the overall appearance of this historic and important part of our community. 🧀🌳

These projects perfectly reflect what makes our Parish special - people coming together to improve the places where we live, work, and visit. 🏑✨

ARPC would like to thank every volunteer involved in both initiatives. Your hard work does not go unnoticed and we hope residents will tune in to BBC Radio Stoke next week to hear more about these inspiring local efforts. πŸ™πŸ“»
