Trans Pennine Trail

Trans Pennine Trail Mapped and signed all the way, the trail is mainly traffic free, and suprisingly level considering the dramatic scenery along the way.

The Trans Pennine Trail is developed and maintained through the co-operation of 26 local authorities in the North of England, and coordinated from the Trail Office in Barnsley The Trans Pennine Trail (TPT) is an exciting route for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. 215 miles (346Km) long, it runs coast-to-coast between Southport and Hornsea, linking the North and Irish seas, and passing through t

he Pennines alongside rivers and canals, and some of the most historic towns and cities in the North of England. A north-south route connnects Leeds and Chesterfield, and a spur to York means there are approximately 350 miles (560 km) of Trans Pennine Trail available to explore. The Trail is also a key part of the National Cycle Network! Please note that by posting photos onto the TPT wall you are accepting the possiblity that your photos may be used for publication and use by the Trans Pennine Trail!

Step back into South Yorkshire’s hidden past with this fascinating look at the lost Worsbrough Branch of the Dearne and Dove Canal. Once serving collieries and industry, much of the canal disappeared due to mining subsidence, but traces still remain.

The film, produced by Wobbly Runner Exploring uncovers surviving bridges, canal structures, old industrial sites and the impressive Swaithe Viaduct, revealing how canals and railways once shaped the landscape.
