BEvery year, tonnes of perfectly good food are thrown away, often because of a simple mix-up between two very different date labels.

Knowing the difference is one of the easiest ways to cut food waste at home, save money and make sure good food is valued rather than binned. It's exactly the thinking behind what we do every day at FareShare Yorkshire.

Swipe through the carousel for a quick, plain English guide, and give us a follow for more tips on reducing food waste across Yorkshire.

Autumn is one of our busiest seasons, and a great time for organisations to get involved.

Corporate volunteering days give teams a hands-on way to support their community while spending a rewarding day together. From sorting food to preparing deliveries, the work is practical, sociable and genuinely useful.

As the colder months approach, demand across our region grows, so support now helps us prepare for when it matters most.

Could your team spend a day with us this autumn? We would love to hear from you.

Meet John Steenson, one of our brilliant volunteer drivers.

We recently sat down with John for a quick chat about his time volunteering with FareShare Yorkshire, and what keeps him coming back.

Our drivers are the vital link between good surplus food and the charities, schools and community groups who rely on it, so the role genuinely makes a difference right across Yorkshire.

John, thank you for choosing to give your time to us. We are so grateful to have you on the team.

If John's story has inspired you, we would love to hear from you. Whether you can get behind the wheel or lend a hand at our Barnsley or Leeds centres, there is a place for you.

A big thank you to Exhale Healthy Coffee πŸ’š

We are so grateful to the team at for their generous donation of coffee beans and travel mugs β˜•

Anyone who has done a shift with us knows the day starts with a brew, so this will keep our volunteers and team fuelled while they sort, pack and deliver good food right across Yorkshire.

It means the world when businesses get behind our work, and Exhale's commitment to sustainability makes them a brilliant fit for our mission 🌍

Thank you again from all of us at FareShare Yorkshire πŸ™

Thinking about volunteering with FareShare Yorkshire but not sure if it is for you? Let us clear up a few myths.

You do not need an HGV licence. Our vans run on a standard licence, and many roles do not involve driving at all.

You do not need to be superhuman either. There is a role to suit every pace, whether that is helping our drivers, sorting, packing or supporting our warehouse teams.

The only real must-have is a willingness to help!

Ever wondered what a volunteer shift with us actually looks like? πŸ€”

It is simpler than most people expect. You arrive at our Barnsley or Leeds centre, grab a brew β˜•, and join the team. From there, you might be sorting surplus food into crates πŸ₯• or helping load a van 🚚

No experience needed. We show you everything on the day. πŸ‘

A few hours is all it takes to keep good food moving across Yorkshire. πŸ’š
