The Miners Federation of Great Britain formed in 1889 became the National Union of Mineworkers in 1944 and is still a functioning organisation today.

The first of the Orgreave Inquiry listening events takes place on Wednesday 28th October in the Miners' Offices (Council Chamber, Victoria Road entrance). There will be two sessions 10am till 1pm and 2pm till 5pm. Please attend if you are able to make sure the Inquiry panel know your views.

These events are an opportunity for people who were involved in, or affected by, the events at Orgreave Coking Plant on 18 June 1984, to learn more about the Inquiry and, if they wish, share their experiences and perspectives.

The Orgreave Inquiry has arranged two public listening events. The first on Wednesday 28 October 2026 in the NUM Offices ( Victoria Road entrance), Barnsley. S70 2LS
The second will take place on Thursday 12 November 2026 in Redhills Durham Miners Hall, DH1 4BE.

The Orgreave Inquiry: Uncovering the Truth

At this year's TUC Congress, Thompsons Solicitors will be hosting a fringe event alongside the National Union of Mineworkers examining one of the most significant developments in the campaign for justice following the events at Orgreave in 1984.

💬 Harry Thompson, Solicitor Advocate at Thompsons Solicitors, will join campaigners, legal experts and trade union representatives to discuss where the inquiry stands today, what happens next and whether it can finally deliver answers for those who have spent decades seeking accountability.
