𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗡 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗲𝘆: 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂, 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀
Following the recent local elections and the resulting political changes within Barnsley Council, we know many of you may be feeling uncertain about what this means for your jobs, your services, and your working lives. Change at the political level can naturally raise questions, but we want to reassure every member that UNISON’s commitment to you remains exactly the same.
Your terms and conditions, your rights at work, and the protections you rely on do not change because the political leadership changes. UNISON continues to be one of the recognised trade unions for Barnsley Council staff, and we will remain at the table—constructive, firm, and vocal—on every issue that affects you.
Over the coming weeks, we will:
• Seek early meetings with the new leadership to set out our priorities and expectations on behalf of members.
• Defend jobs, services, and fair working practices, regardless of the political makeup of the council.
• Keep you informed about any developments that may affect your workplace or service area.
• Stand together to ensure that any proposed changes are fair, transparent, and properly consulted on.
UNISON has been through many political cycles in local government, and one thing has always remained true: when we act collectively, we protect each other. Whatever direction the new administration takes, we will continue to challenge anything that threatens your rights and champion anything that strengthens your working environment. If you have concerns, please speak to your local steward or branch office. No member should feel they have to navigate uncertainty alone.
