As Black History Month draws to a close, we celebrate the contribution, strength and activism of our Black members, colleagues and communities. 🖤

For UNISON Barnsley, that commitment extends far beyond October.

Over the past year, our members have stood together at the Fair Visa national demonstration at Parliament, calling for fairness and dignity for migrant workers. Closer to home, we were proud to see Barnsley Council sign UNISON’s Anti-Racism Charter in March, making a clear commitment to challenging racism in the workplace.

These moments remind us that equality is not something we simply celebrate. It is something we organise for, campaign for and work towards together.

Thank you to all our members, activists, allies and community partners who continue to make that commitment real.

Black History Month may be drawing to a close, but the work continues.

World Menopause Day takes place every year on 18 October. 🌸

It is an international awareness day dedicated to raising understanding of menopause, improving support for those experiencing it, and encouraging better education among healthcare professionals, employers and the wider public.

Earlier in the week branch and regional representatives took part in a wellbeing event in Barnsley Town Hall, continuing the partnership between UNISON and Barnsley Council promoting menopause awareness events throughout the year.
