💛❤️💚 Bermo is the local name for our seaside hometown of Barmouth, and we’re proud to be part of the worldwide Batala family with roots in Salvador, Bahia — the heart of Afro-Brazilian samba reggae. Batala’s infectious rhythms were created by Giba Gonçalves in Paris back in 1997, inspired by the sounds of his hometown in Brazil. Our music blends Afro-Brazilian traditions with carnival spirit — made to get you moving, smiling, and celebrating life! 🎶🔥

Even the name Batala has rhythm in it — a playful twist on the French for “hit there” and a nod to deep cultural roots in Yoruba traditions and the sacred bata drum, which travelled across the world bringing beats of joy, power, and unity. 🌍🥁

So when you see Batala Bermo in action — think carnival, community, and pure rhythm.

One of our Musical Directors joined a rehearsal on Thursday with Batala Portsmouth ahead of Portsmouth Pride, alongside drummers from Batala bands across Europe.

As if that wasn't exciting enough, they were even given the chance to call for the band – a brilliant experience and a real privilege!

We love visiting other Batala bands and sharing rhythms and making memories with drummers from across the family. 🏳️‍🌈🥁

🏳️‍🌈 It's officially Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈

Danny, one of our Musical Directors, is travelling all the way down to Portsmouth, along with players from Batala bands across the UK, to join the incredible Batala Portsmouth who are leading the fabulous waterfront parade at Portsmouth Pride!

We are proud to stand with and support the LGBTQ+ community, celebrating love, diversity, acceptance, and the freedom to be yourself. Batala Bermo is a place where everyone is welcome, valued, and encouraged to be exactly who they are.

Such a wonderful day in Barmouth as we welcomed in Jack and Harvey who were carrying a sack of potatoes all the way from Wrexham to The Mermaid Fish Bar in Barmouth to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK!

Batala Bermo is proud to be supporting Carrying Potatoes Against Cancer, as Jack and Harvey take on the incredible challenge of carrying a sack of potatoes 57 miles from Wrexham to Barmouth non-stop in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

We'll be bringing the rhythm and energy to help cheer them on and celebrate this amazing achievement.

Another fantastic Ras Y Gader event today in the beautiful town of Dolgellau!

Thank you to everyone for your wonderful warm and friendly vibes and touching comments!

It's always such a pleasure to be involved, and we hope everyone enjoyed the race as much as we enjoyed cheering on the runners! ❤️

We were joined by some wonderful players from Batala Mersey, who travelled the long distance to be with us and help us make the sound extra powerful! Thank you so much for being a part of it!
