🌈🥁 Batala Bermo brings the samba reggae carnival spirit to Barmouth! The best part? Come join the beat… because in Batala, everyone has a place in the bloco! 🎭🎵

A free, not-for-profit drumming band open to all — powered by big beats, bold costumes & Afro-Brazilian rhythms. 🎶✨ 🎉🥁 Welcome to Batala Bermo! 🥁🎉

We’re all about big beats, bright colours, and carnival vibes! 🌈✨
Batala Bermo is a not-for-profit band where every penny raised goes straight back into drums, costumes, and keeping the rhythm alive for our members. Joining is totally FREE — open to everyone regardless of race, religion, income, sexual orientation, or musical experience. If you’ve got energy, you’ve got what it takes! 💃🕺

💛❤️💚 Bermo is the local name for our seaside hometown of Barmouth, and we’re proud to be part of the worldwide Batala family with roots in Salvador, Bahia — the heart of Afro-Brazilian samba reggae. Batala’s infectious rhythms were created by Giba Gonçalves in Paris back in 1997, inspired by the sounds of his hometown in Brazil. Our music blends Afro-Brazilian traditions with carnival spirit — made to get you moving, smiling, and celebrating life! 🎶🔥

Even the name Batala has rhythm in it — a playful twist on the French for “hit there” and a nod to deep cultural roots in Yoruba traditions and the sacred bata drum, which travelled across the world bringing beats of joy, power, and unity. 🌍🥁

So when you see Batala Bermo in action — think carnival, community, and pure rhythm.
