With just over a week to the Barmouth 10k and the more important mascot race, Stormy Stan feels it’s time to share his journey. After hitting rock bottom following last year’s defeat to Steven seagull. He has trained hard and is ready for the rematch!!

It takes a very special person to volunteer. Giving up free time, balancing volunteering commitments alongside work and family life, and, in the case of the RNLI, potentially putting yourself at risk to save the lives of others is something truly remarkable.
For some of our crew, their commitment to serving others extends beyond the lifeboat station. They are also dedicated to improving the communities in which they live through service on the town council.

We are immensely proud to announce that volunteer crew member Damian Williams has been nominated as Mayor of Barmouth by outgoing Mayor Rob Williams, who is also an RNLI volunteer.

Mayor Damian Williams has nominated Cllr Dylan Roberts as Deputy Mayor. Dylan is also a valued member of the Barmouth RNLI crew and serves as a Launch Authority.

We congratulate Damian and Dylan on their new appointments and wish them both every success in their roles

Thank you to everyone who supported Boathouse rocks on Bank holiday weekend, we raised an amazing £2747.52.
Thank you to Mike who stayed up over night cooking the pulled pork, which was a huge success. Thank you to all our volunteers who helped out on the day, to those who provided the homemade cakes or manned the stalls and an additional thank you to Wendy’s cafe who always provide us with lovely cakes for all of our events.

But our biggest thanks must go to the excellent musicians who give up their time every year to support us! We couldn’t do Boathouse rocks without you. And to Al Dean who organises it all… you’re a star 🌟 thank you 🧡

📟📟📟 BEEP BEEP 📟📟 LAUNCH ILB 📟📟📟

Monday 25th May, Bank Holiday Monday saw the beach full of happy holidaymakers enjoying the glorious sunshine, inevitably this usually means our volunteer crew will be called into action.

SHOUT ONE
The pagers sounded at 2.48pm as the volunteer crew of inshore lifeboat (ILB) Craig Steadman were tasked by HM Coastguard to reports of a missing child near South Bank, Fairbourne beach. Launching into calm seas with good visibility the crew swiftly made their way towards the scene. On route they were stood down as the child had been safely located. The crew returned to station where the lifeboat was refuelled and readied for service.

SHOUT TWO
The pagers sounded at 6.45pm as the ILB crew were tasked by HM Coastguard to assist a broken down jet ski. On arriving upon the scene, the casualty was in a group of seven jet skis so it was suggested to the group that between them, they towed the broken jet ski back to Aberdyfi. The lifeboat crew were stood down by HM Coastguard and returned to Barmouth

SHOUT THREE
On returning to Barmouth the crew self launched having been alerted by North Wales Police to reports of a missing six year old girl. The crew began search patterns along the shoreline before being stood down when the child was located ten minutes later on the beach.

The volunteer crew of ILB Craig Steadman returned to the boathouse where she was refuelled and readied for service.

📟 📟 BEEP BEEP 📟📟 LAUNCH ILB 📟📟

Wednesday 27th May saw a busy afternoon for the volunteer Barmouth crew of inshore lifeboat (ILB) Craig Steadman which saw them respond to three incidents, two of which involved inflatables and offshore winds.

SHOUT ONE
The pagers first sounded at 12.12pm as the ILB crew self launched to a paddleboard with two children on board which was spotted in difficulty in the offshore winds near the north bank.
The ILB launched into calm seas and made good speed towards the paddleboard. Whilst the ILB was enroute a family member had swam out to assist the stricken paddleboarders. The crew of ILB Craig Steadman recovered the now three casualties and the paddleboard and returned them to the shoreline . The crew then carried out a shore line sweep returning one further paddleboard with one person on board to the shore before returning to the boathouse and refuelling ready for service.

SHOUT TWO
At 2.26pm the crew were tasked by HM Coastguard to reports of two people on inflatable kayaks being blown offshore from the north bank. The crew launched ILB Craig Steadman and travelled a nautical mile out from the shoreline to the kayakers who initially declined any assistance. The crew of ILB Craig Steadman kept a watchful eye on the kayakers who were determined to paddle back to shore. Realising they were fighting a losing battle the casualties accepted the offer of help from the volunteer crew and the kayaks and casualties were recovered to the shoreline. The crew had returned to the boathouse and were refuelling and preparing ILB Craig Steadman for service when they were required to relaunch

SHOUT THREE
The crew launched with some urgency when they received reports of swimmers in difficulty off the sandbank in front of the boathouse. Fortunately by the time the lifeboat had reached the shore line, the swimmers had made their way to safety and the volunteer crew returned to the boathouse and Craig Steadman was readied for service for the final time that day.

An RNLI spokesperson said ‘whilst we want visitors to enjoy the beach we actively discourage the use of inflatables in the water, especially with an off shore wind. The wind will blow you out to sea faster than you can paddle back. None of the casualties recovered today were wearing lifejackets or flotation devices which we encourage. Also whilst you are on the water we suggest you carry a means of contacting someone if you do get into difficulty’

‼️ OFFSHORE WIND ‼️

It is dangerous to launch an inflatable when the wind is blowing from the land to the sea (offshore winds) as inflatables can very quickly be blown out to sea.

Many of the rescues the RNLI respond to involve inflatables and that is the main reason why the RNLI strongly advises against taking them to the beach.

Inflatables are not designed for open water and it takes very little breeze for them to be swept out to sea much quicker than you can swim or paddle back to the beach.’
