An amazing 2025 by the Brig Litter Pickers!

I'm so proud of the lovely volunteers who came out throughout 2025 to help tidy up Bamber Bridge.

The stats here speak for themselves, but the group is more than just the stats. We've spent the year not just cleaning up the streets together, but laughing, eating, and talking together as friends.

And out of the simple idea of "let's tidy up Brig" has flowed so much more.

BLT volunteers moved between different community groups to help not only tidy up Brig, but actively make it better and stronger. They helped clean up at the Battle of Bamber Bridge, and they came to support the Time Capsule event at St Saviours, and they helped clean up Brownedge Pond.

And from these humble beginnings grew the idea to start the Bamber Bridge in Bloom group. This merry band of litter pickers now want to make Bamber Bridge Blooming Beautiful in 2026 - and I think they will do it because they are amazing!

Final Litter Pick of 2025!

I could never have imagined, when I walked along St Mary's Road last December and saw litter being blown along the road, that my sudden thought of "we need to do something about this" would lead to this!

Almost a year to the day, Brig's very own band of litter picking volunteers met up to undertake the very last pick of 2025, and we had a blast in our Xmas gear wombling up and down Station Road.

The rain was kind to us and we managed to get rid of:

๐Ÿšฎ 13 bags of litter!

๐ŸŽˆ 4 Nox Canisters

๐Ÿšฌ 12 vapes

Thank you to the lady who stopped us to say what a difference we are making to Brig, and how much it means to the village. That was just the most lovely thing for the volunteers to hear as we stacked the bags up against the bin on Station Road - thank you from us all!

And thank you to The Big Sandwich Bamber Bridge for the lovely biscuits you gave the volunteers as we sat down for a much needed brew afterwards - they were delicious!

We are having a break for the holiday period, but we will be back in 2026. If you want to join us, please visit: https://tinyurl.com/JoinBrigsLitterTeam

๐Ÿšฎ 30 discarded vapes picked up and taken to the tip!

The lovely volunteers of Brig's Litter Team met up on soggy Sunday morning on the 30th November to once again tackle the Collins Road alleyway, from Brindle Road to Station Road - and what a job they did!

Cleaning up around St Mary's War Memorial ๐Ÿ’š

We went out today to clean up around the memorial ahead of the procession and wreath laying ceremony on Remembrance Sunday, tomorrow after the 9:30am service at St Mary's Catholic Church, Brownedge, Bamber Bridge

We also made some time to clean up along St Mary's Avenue and through Outram House, Brownedge Walk, Brownedge Close, Brownedge Road, and Brownedge Lane - it was a Brownedge Extravaganza, folks!

๐Ÿ˜ Biggest thing we found: A huge A1 sign for a building firm that had ripped off in a storm and was in tatters.

๐Ÿ Smallest things we found: A tiny, 3D printed gnome with a mighty moustache and pointy hat.

๐Ÿ’ฉ Smelliest thing we found: Dog poo, both left along the pavement and also collected in bags and then thrown under hedges. If your dog drops it, please bag it and then put the bag in a bin!

10 bags of litter removed and 16 fly-tips reported!

What a lovely day for a pick, even if there could only be 5 of us today.

We started at the Railway Station and 2 BLTers went down Station Road to the Hob Inn and back (they promised me they were picking and not having a swift one). The other 3 of us headed down Wesley Street, and across the play ground to Oxford Road and Cambridge Road and all the alleys in the area.

I have to say, the fly-tipping has ramped up again and we have reported 10 sites to South Ribble Borough Council and I hope they find some evidence of who has done this through their investigations.

Still, we managed to remove 10 bags of rubbish from Brig and left it a cleaner, prouder place ๐Ÿ’š Here are the stars and highlights!

๐Ÿšฎ 10 bags of cr... ud removed

๐Ÿšจ 16 sites of fly-tipping removed

๐Ÿงค 1 glove and 1 handkerchief - If these were yours, they can be reclaimed from a landfill site from Monday

๐Ÿชซ1 earpod - crushed and rusty with a knackered battery. 1 careless owner. ยฃ30 ono

๐Ÿ– A raided money box - nothing , we checked.

๐Ÿ˜• Earbuds. Gross.

๐Ÿคจ More pegs. Why are there so many pegs. Why? WHY!?

๐ŸŽˆLoads of nox canisters. Stop huffing, kids.

A great litter pick along Station Road!

The brilliant volunteers of Brig's Litter Team met up at The Bamber Bridge Catholic Club and wombled on down Station Road from Brownedge Lane to School Lane.

10 bags of litter were collected, and 5 fly-tip sites reported.

No socks were found on this pick, but we did find:
๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›๐Ÿ’€ A dead bird
๐Ÿ„ A mushroom patch
๐Ÿ—บ ๐Ÿงฐ A stash of buried clothes pegs
๐Ÿ‘ถ A lost baby's dummy
๐Ÿซ The bottom half of a garden shed dumped in an alleyway

Another month of litter picking and community pride!

The wonderful volunteers of Brig's Litter team have been out in force throughout September to help keep Brig tidy.

This month, we:
๐Ÿšฎ Collected another 37 bags of litter - that makes 380 since we started in March
๐Ÿ‘ขWalked 44km / 26 miles, meaning we have now yomped the 533km/320 miles to Magneville in France or Doll in Scotland!

This month marks the first month we recorded zero fly-tipping cases and only collected 5 vapes! That's a long way from June when we reported 10 incidents of fly-tipping and 50 vapes!

The volunteers of BLT show real community pride every time they pick up a bag and a picker and every time they do, they make Brig more beautiful.

Club Street and Station Road tackled!

The BLTers met on Sunday afternoon to tackle Station Road from the Hob Inn to the railway station. We didn't all make it that far as a group of us were distracted, and then horrified, by what we found up Club Street.

It's both a dumping ground for all manner of car repair items and waste (including half used tubs of anti-freeze dumped in bushes) as well as an alfresco drinking establishment of dubious quality and hygiene.

Whoever is currently taking over the old Indian restaurant at the end is going to need a skip and a hazmat suit, but we've done what we can and removed four (very full) bags of bottles and cans from the area.

I have a feeling we'll be back on Club Street again soon. Maybe the lovely folks at Baxi UK can come and help us?
