RICH HALL
📅Saturday 13th June
🕑8pm

“Chin Music” has two meanings. One is idle talk. The other is a brushback throw in baseball or cricket to intimidate the batter.
Both describe Rich Hall’s comedy. Idle but intimidating. Sharp, quick, splenetic, and sublimely improvisational.
If you’ve never seen him, you need to hustle down to your local venue and grab a seat because he never disappoints. Ever.

Ben Holder & SJ Holder present

CHANSON SWING
Saturday 20th June - 7.30pm

Sophie-Jayne Holder (vocals), Ben Holder (piano, violin), Mike Green (double bass), Mike Cypher (drums)

Expect a charming blend of French, German and Spanish repertoire alongside some wonderful easy-listening jazz & swing. Warm, tuneful vocals, a smattering of incredible violin, swinging piano and double bass and witty repartee from this husband & wife all come together in this show from the Chanson Swing Trio.

SOPHIE-JAYNE HOLDER began her musical studies on the flute at the age of four and spent her childhood between orchestras, choirs and recitals. Alongside this love and flair for music she discovered and developed her natural ability for languages, opting to study French, German and Spanish at university and spending a great deal of time living abroad. 'Chanson Swing' is a natural project that combines all of her passions.

BEN HOLDER is the most acclaimed and exciting jazz violinist in the UK and a phenomenal self-taught pianist. His classical studies began at the age of six and were complemented by training at the Birmingham Conservatoire. An introduction to jazz came in his early teens – classic masters such as Benny Goodman, Oscar Peterson and Stephane Grappelli – and lead Ben to truly find his place as a musician. Ben possesses an innate sense of swing rhythm (something which often eludes classical players), breathtaking technical ability and true showmanship on stage. He offers flawless musicianship, heaps of energy and personality and a visible passion for his craft.

MIKE GREEN combines a First Class Degree from The Birmingham Conservatoire with incredible improvisational ability and has found himself greatly in demand playing Double and Electric Bass. He has vast experience performing at small intimate Jazz Clubs such as sell-out appearances at Ronnie Scotts, Pizza Express and The 606 with award-winning groups, to appearing on Prime Time National TV with household names such as Jamie Cullum and Dame Shirley Bassey for the BBC.

MIKE CYPHER is a hugely popular, Cheltenham-based drummer, often underpinning line ups up and down the country. With roots stemming back to the Gloucestershire youth jazz orchestra, Mike knows his stuff and has performed to sold-out audiences at Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scotts and many more wonderful venues.

Dreams and Farewell

Chamber music for string sextet.

For classical music lovers in the Bakewell area, the Town Hall Chamber Series for 2026 offers a wonderful opportunity to hear some outstanding concerts performed by members of the Hallé, Manchester Camerata, and top free-lancers working all around the UK.

The final concert in the Town Hall Chamber Series is a wonderful programme of works for string ensemble.

Vaughan Williams wrote his Phantasy Quintet in 1912 for a composition award. It highlights his love of both Renaissance English music and folk music. Included in this concert is the great string sextet opus 36 by Brahms - a work full of longing, melancholy and joy in which he enshrines the name of one of his great loves, Agathe, in musical notation. Two other English works will also feature in the programme – a short Fantasia by Purcell, and the expressive and evocative Poem for string quartet by Rebecca Clarke.

We welcome back many familiar faces for this Dreams and Farewells concert performed by Caroline Pether and Rosemary Attree (violins) Alistair Vennart and Catherine Yates(violas) with Nicholas Trygstad and Dale Culliford (cellos).

Don’t miss this chance to hear high quality professional chamber music, on your doorstep.
