Meet ⭐️George Parish⭐️, who'll be running the London Marathon for us next March in honour and memory of his mum.

"This is a cause that is very close to my heart because of my mum's experience with a spinal cord injury and the profound impact it had on her life and our family.

"In 2010, my mum suffered a brainstem stroke. During her treatment and recovery, she unfortunately developed a spinal abscess. Due to the severity of her brain injury, the medical team were unable to treat the abscess immediately. By the time it could be addressed, the damage to her spinal cord was catastrophic and permanently changed her life.

"Over the following years, she faced many of the challenges associated with spinal cord injury, demonstrating incredible courage and determination despite the daily difficulties she encountered.

"As a family, we witnessed firsthand the physical, emotional and practical realities of living with a spinal cord injury and the impact it can have on everyone around you. Sadly, after a long and brave battle, my mum passed away in 2022."

We were delighted to welcome Rebecca, Faye, Lucy and Julie from HFH Healthcare as sponsors for our recent patient Fish and Chip night, and would like to say a huge thank you for their support.

Over 50 patients and their guests attended this special event, held in Cafe Oasis at the National Spinal Injuries Centre. As always, guests enjoyed meeting new people while enjoying fish and chips and learning about our research.

Our panel with lived experience were a huge help in giving guests answers to their many questions about living with spinal cord injury and life beyond rehab.

Thank you to all the patients, friends and family who came along and made the evening such a success! 👏🙏

Sunday Share 💫

Today, we're sharing some of our favourite tips for living with SCI from people living with SCI.

💡Listen to your body (UTI, pain, spasm) and look after it - especially your skin.
💡If something isn't working, change it (medication, equipment).
💡Always try before you buy - take a trip to NAIDEX at the Birmingham NEC.
💡Get involved in the SCI community so you can talk to like-minded people.
💡Be direct as to what you need and how you want to be cared for.
💡Don't be defined by your injury. SCI is a physical injury and doesn't diminish your academic, emotional, and intellectual side.

📢 Fundraising Friday Thank You 🙏

We want to say a HUGE thank you West Sussex Golf Club, Ladies' Captain Catherine Davies, Gentlemen's Captain Martin Vanstone, Kim Forster, and the club's committee for organising September's Captains Golf Day/Charity of the Year partnership, which raised a whopping £50,000(!) to be shared between Stoke Mandeville Spinal Research and the wonderful team at Chestnut Tree House.
