Today is Age Without Limits Day!

A national day encouraging us all to question assumptions about age and challenge ageism wherever we see it.

We're attending the Age Without Limits Bucks event today, organised by Age UK Buckinghamshire, sharing information about our Move Together Bucks programme and the support available to help people become more active, improve their wellbeing and discover local activities.

Staying active can help maintain strength, balance, confidence and independence, enabling people to keep doing the everyday activities that matter most.

Rain, hills, cows and sunshine – what a day! πŸŒžπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ

On Saturday, our trustees, staff, friends and family laced up their boots for our Volunteer Celebration Walk through the beautiful Chiltern Hills as part of Volunteers' Week – and what a journey it was!

We kicked things off in Butlers Cross with bacon rolls in hand before heading out into the rain. Our first stop was Coombe Hill Monument – which involved a climb *much* steeper than anyone anticipated, but reaching the top made it all worthwhile!

Luckily the sun had other ideas, and by the time we headed into the woods, the sun started peeping through the clouds and we had lovely weather for the rest of the walk – a well-earned reward for our early morning determination!

We then strolled past the Chequers viewpoint, navigated a field of cows with varying levels of enthusiasm for our presence, and made it back to the pub for a well-earned drink 🍡

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day a success πŸ’›

And the adventure doesn't stop there! Our trustees are currently taking on their 800,000 group step challenge throughout June to raise money for us, so please support them if you can – every step counts!

When Jeremy was first referred to Age UK Buckinghamshire, he was feeling isolated following significant life changes and struggling with ongoing pain and reduced mobility. He wanted to get out more but wasn’t sure where to start.

With personalised support, he was introduced to activities he now attends regularly β€” including Men in Sheds, community coffee events, film screenings and a weekly cookery club.

Because our services made such a difference to his life, Jeremy wanted to give back. His personal journey with the program has sparked a deep desire to support others, and he is now a trained volunteer, supporting others in the way he was.

β€œI can’t believe how my life has changed in a year β€” it’s all thanks to Age UK’s Buckinghamshire's help.”

πŸ’œ Volunteers' Week Spotlight: Meet Ros πŸ’œ

At our Buckingham Market stall on Saturday, we had the pleasure of meeting Ros, one of our incredible longstanding volunteer befrienders.

Ros began volunteering with Age UK Buckinghamshire over 40 years ago, and during that time she has supported countless older people who feel isolated, lonely, or simply in need of a friendly face and a listening ear.

From sharing conversations over a cup of tea to completing jigsaw puzzles together and supporting couples affected by dementia, Ros says that being a befriender is incredibly rewarding.

More than 40 years on, Ros is still volunteering and currently visits a lady who recently celebrated her 91st birthday.

Volunteers like Ros are at the heart of what we do. Their kindness, compassion and dedication help older people across our communities feel valued, supported and less alone.

Thank you, Ros, for over four decades of friendship and care. You are truly inspiring. πŸ’œ

πŸ’› It's Volunteers' Week! πŸ’›

This week, we're celebrating the incredible volunteers who help make Age UK Bucks what it is.

From befriending and dementia support to helping people claim the benefits they’re entitled to, our volunteers give their time, energy and compassion to support older people across Buckinghamshire every day.

To celebrate them, three of our wonderful trustees (who are volunteers themselves!) have organised a fundraising walk through the beautiful Chiltern Hills, bringing together trustees, volunteers, friends and staff to recognise the amazing contribution our volunteer community makes.

Alongside the walk, our trustees have also begun their 800,000 group step challenge - an incredible challenge inspired by the 80+ years that Age UK Bucks has been supporting local older people.

Unfortunately, a couple of injuries meant the challenge had to be postponed slightly, but we're delighted that it is now underway and the trustees are looking forward to getting those steps in throughout June!

πŸ’› We'd love your support.

If you're able to, please consider making a donation to support their efforts and help us continue supporting our community across Buckinghamshire.

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers for everything you do. We simply couldn't do it without you!
