👀 Inside a Sandpiper Bag: Bandages and Dressings That Make a Difference.

Having the right dressing available helps our volunteer clinical responders care for someone injured in an emergency.
Our Sandpiper Bags contain several different types:

🩹 OLAES trauma bandages
Specialist dressings that help responders apply pressure to a bleeding wound, with additional gauze for managing more complex injuries. Depending on size, these cost £15–£25 each.

🩹 Blast bandages
Despite their name, these are useful for more than blast injuries. Their large dressing pad can cover extensive wounds and burns. A donation of £10 could help fund one of these versatile bandages.

🩹 Haemostatic dressing
Specialist gauze treated with a substance called chitosan to help control severe bleeding. It gives our trained responders another important option when caring for someone with a serious bleeding wound. A donation of £25 could help provide one of these dressings for a Sandpiper Bag.

Our commitment continues after a bag is supplied. The Sandpiper Trust replaces supplies used during incidents and items that reach their expiry date, helping keep responders equipped for the next call.

This small order of replacement equipment cost over £2,000.
It's a reminder that keeping our 1,250+ Sandpiper Bags stocked and ready for use across Scotland is a constant task.
Equipment is used, expires and needs replacing, but these bags must always be ready when an emergency happens.
Sandpiper receives no NHS, government or local authority funding. We are entirely funded through donations and fundraising.

What's inside a Sandpiper Bag?
Every Sandpiper bag contains more than 50 pieces of essential, life-saving equipment, enabling volunteer clinicians to provide critical care whenever and wherever it is needed.
Each bag costs over £1,000 to stock. Our commitment does not stop there. Sandpiper pledges to replace used and expired items and continually update equipment to ensure clinicians have what they need to save lives. This costs the charity thousands of pounds every year.
Nothing goes to waste. Expired equipment is used in vital training courses, helping healthcare professionals maintain and develop essential emergency skills.
Sandpiper receives no government funding and no NHS support. Everything we do is made possible through the generosity of donations, fundraising events, and supporters like you.
