You can almost hear the sleigh bells... or is that the rain ?

No matter what we have a few bikes in that could make a nice add to a child's Christmas and in the spirit of what the hub is here to do they are available free to anybody within our local communities of Dunning, Aberuthven, Auchterarder and Blackford.

Please only ask if the bike is going to be used and we will require a commitment for it not to be sold on as unfortunately we found an example of such which was disappointing.

Blue / Teal : a 14" bike - 3/4 yr old
Pink with basket : a 16" - 4-5 yr old
Darker Pink : 20" - 5-8 yr old

As we seek to support sustainable transport as part of the response to climate change we can also enhance facilities for our young folk as ACSR have done locally.

This report from Scottish Cycling shows how much work is being done, the facilities being created and has a wee mention of our own pump track.

More work will be delivered in our communities in the year ahead to establish a framework within TCSoA from P1 through to S6 as well as an expansion of our capabilities to help maintain, service and refurbish bikes in Auchterarder, Blackford and Dunning.

Christmas is just around the corner and the bills are totting up. ☃️

As part of our effort to help out we have a lovely wee first pedal bike for some young lady out there. It has been kindly donated to us and will suit 3-4 years old. It is so new it still has the cellophane on the grips.

Available for any family in our local community area of Auchterarder, Aberuthven, Dunning and Blackford.

FULLY FUNDED CYCLE TECHNICIAN TRAINING

As part of our ongoing development we have funding in place to have up to 3 people become trained & qualified as bike technicians. This will cover Velotech Bronze and Silver level. The professional nature of the courses require candidates to be at least 16 years old unfortunately.

The aim is to have more folk able to assist with the general workshop efforts around refurbishment, potentially help service the trishaw and help the Cycle Hub put on maintenance classes for the community. It will also ensure I am not a single point of failure around any of these aspects.

If this is something that interests you then what we will ask in return is 18 months commitment to helping. It is not a big or hugely demanding workload and is very much in your time v’s having deadlines for anything.

Be warned though it can be addictive and you will start to want lots of tools….. 🤣

We would also like to get some gender balance so any ladies willing to do this would be much appreciated.

We all know just how challenging it can be driving in and around Auchterarder and the local communities.

As such it is really important that we familiarise ourselves with the updated Highway Code rules around safe distances for vulnerable road users.

I saw this video from Cycling Scotland last week that really hits home the consequences of not doing so.

Worth asking yourself : if it were you, your partner, your child or grandchild would you still allow frustration to mean you pass too close ?

Apoll Vivid - As New

Last bike out of the workshop for today to help with Christmas.

A beautiful Apollo Vivid 24" wheel size that is about a year old and been ridden very little. It will suit 7-9 yrs old.

It is an incredible donation from Gemma Stephen and her daughter after the latter grew out of it and the hub was able to give her a bike to suit her new height.

This bike is in absolutely mint condition.

In line with our ethos though it is available on a pay what you can basis. For anybody on benefits or in financial constraint we can provide at low or no cost.

Carrera Ltd Edition - Medium

Hub Costs : £40 for parts and service.

Our 3rd bike of our Christmas bunch is a beautiful Carrera Ltd Edition. It has been well maintained during its life and has been fitted with new cables and fully serviced by the ACSR Cycle Hub workshop.

It would make a great present for a teen or adult and would fit 5' 4" - 5' 9".

Pinnacle Iroke - Medium Hardtail MTB

Hub Costs : £60 for parts and service.

The 2nd of our newly refurbished bikes up for grabs. This is a bit of a cracker that despite some paint scrapes has a pretty high spec.

It has had new lightweight wheels fitted, been fully serviced and is ready to go. Is is a 3 x 9 gear setup so good for MTB climbs. It has hydraulic disc brakes and as such plenty of stopping power.

APOLLO Phase 20" - Beautiful condition

Hello all : it's been a while as I took a break to visit family in far flung Australia.

But back now and due to the generosity of some local donor's there are a number of nice bikes up for grabs.

Hopefully some of these can help in the run up to Christmas as times certainly have not got any easier since we started doing our refurbishments to enable folk to pick up a bike for a cost that works for them.

First up is a lovely 20" bike which has been incredibly well maintained during it's life and has been serviced by the ACSR Cycle Hub workshop.

It comes with a rack and water bottle and should work for 5' 4" - 5' 10" hence a teen through to adult.

Calling all members and friends of ACSR! It's been another great year for ACSR thanks to all your efforts. Now to what's next.

We want to make Auchterarder the most active small town in Scotland but that will mean different things to different people.
