Lynne & I had the priveledge of being invited by the Lord lieutenant of Kent Lady Colgrain & her deputies to the Houise of Lords London for afternoon tea. It was hosted by Martin Lewis (INewas reader BBC) who was part of The Kings Award for Voluntary Service team who chose the winning groups.

Lynne & I were invited to the Make your own Cocktail party on the ships upper deck bar. Oh what fun we had.

To-day AARA had a full hall for the entertainment. Natalie who is a Sax/Singer went down very well. She even got alot up dancing. The committee will hopefully ask Natalie back. To-day several of our members had a fantastic Afternoon tea at "Carters" run by Val & the students of Towers School Kennington. It cost each member £15 which was very good seeing the amount of food, tea or coffee provided. Unfortunately the School Head has decided to close down the restaurant which means that the students who want to do catering as a subject can't. They are going make the kitchen & dining area into a staff rest room. All the catering equipment, some costing thousands of pound being scrapped. Some of the present student are half way through their course which means they might lose out on gettin g a final certificate. The whole thing will be closed by the 3rd June. Where are the school governors who must have allowed this to happen. Children who are not academic but can learn to cook will be left to one side. Val the tutor is being kept on for one year & used to teach woodwork & artwork. I think this is very bad planning by the school as the students in the past have been employed by Eastwell Manor, Lympne Castle & Boys Hall. They always produced meals for Ashford Charities which will no longer be done. Our club has supported "Carters" on various events especially Christmas. What is more important Catering Students or Teachers Staff Room?
