Dementia-friendly Alton

Dementia-friendly Alton Dementia-friendly Alton-promoting a dementia-friendly community within Alton and surrounding villages

Alton became the first town in East Hampshire to become Dementia Friendly at a launch in the Community Centre on 1st July 2014. Many dementia and care organisations attended and since then over forty high street retailers have signed up to the Dementia Friendly Initiative. This means that they will display a dementia friendly sticker in their windows to show people that their staff have been tra

ined to provide appropriate help and support to people with dementia and their families. Visit our website at http://www.hugofox.com/community/dementia-friendly-alton-7739/about-us

Celebrating National Volunteers Week and giving a massive 'thank you' to all our amazing volunteers at Dementia-friendly Alton and Alton Assembly Rooms. Without each and every one of you the service that we provide for the community would not be so comprehensive and welcoming. Everyone plays a huge part. With a variety of opportunities to get invloved - if you are interested in joining the team and can spare a day a week or can offer an admin skill or two - we would love to hear from you. Heres a collage of just some of our volunteers doing what they love. Please contact [email protected] or call 01420 551455 or just pop into the Assembly Rooms - we are always there xx

What a very busy Dementia Action Week we had at Assembly Rooms, culminating in the amazing Summer Ball on Friday afternoon - with live music from Ogiano and fantastic dancing from -V-Motion. Such a treat for our members and many members of the public who popped in to see what was going on!! We are of course open for business with our full service for the rest of this week - but as there is an Amber Heat Alert in force - se details in link below - we recommend that people venture out with extreme caution. Any sessions that we hold at the centre will be low exertion only and emphasis will be focussed on keeping everyone well hydrated. Take care all

Dates for your diaries. Its the Spring Fayre this coming Saturday at the Town Park - so we will nip in and pick up some lovely seedlings for all our gardening activities. If you're in the park - why not pop along to the Care Your Way stand and guess the name of the Bear - just costs a pound for a guess and all proceeds in and of Dementia-friendly Alton - huge thanks to Care Your Way Alton, Farnham & Farnborough - for supporting us in this way. Another business stepping up to support people living with dementia is Nationwide UK - the Fleet Branch of the Building Society - who in collaboration with Demnetia UK and Admiral Nursing hold dementia clinics every three months. There are still some appointments available for the clinics next week - 19-21 May - click on the link below to book your space at Nationwide in Fleet.

Well Jumpin' June did it !!! She's only gone and jumped out of a plane when shes over 90 years old!! And why did she do it ? well because she could and because she wanted to raise fund for Dementia-friendly Alton and Dogs for Autism. She's well on the way to her target of £1000.00, but why not support her by adding a donation - evey £ helps !! The total raised will be split equally between the two charities. See the pictures attached of Jumpin' June xx and click on link to add a few £s to her fund - Thanks all xx

Huge thanks to AODS who invited Dementia-friendly Alton to the dress rehearsal of the latest show - Man of la Mancha - thirty five members, carers and volunteers enjoyed a fabulous evening. A great show - get your tickets now - see below - you wont be disappointed - it runs from tomorrow (wednesday) through to saturday. A special treat for our members was seeing one of their lovely volunteers Geoff Goodall joining the cast for the first time - they are not used to seeing him as a 'baddie' - but he did it well
