Have you read the summer 2026 edition of Kidney Matters yet?

The issue features Charlie, who found both comfort and an outlet for creativity through our Kidney Kitchen. His story highlights how food can play an important role in helping families adapt to life with kidney disease.

If you are new to kidney disease, or preparing meals for someone who is living with the condition, knowing what foods are suitable can feel overwhelming. These decisions can be even more challenging when cooking for children and young people with kidney disease.

That's why we created the Kidney Kitchen, to make kidney-friendly cooking simple, enjoyable and accessible. With a wide range of delicious recipes and practical advice, the Kidney Kitchen helps take the stress out of meal planning with dishes that are not only tasty but suitable for everyone at the table.

Alongside our online recipes, we've developed a series of Kidney Kitchen magazines packed with tasty dishes, cooking tips and nutritional guidance. One of these is Family Favourites, a special edition designed for children and young people with kidney disease, featuring easy to follow recipes that the whole family can enjoy.

In this video hear from Dietitian Angeline, Charlie and his mum, Melina, as they discuss the impact Kidney Kitchen has had on their family and explain how the Family Favourites magazine was developed to support families living with kidney disease.

Imagine being told overnight that your child needs a kidney transplant.

For Abbie, that's exactly what happened when her daughter Isabelle was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease. Now, three times a week, they travel 80 miles for dialysis while navigating the many challenges that kidney disease brings.

Families like Abbie and Isabelle's shouldn't have to face kidney disease alone. With your support, we can continue providing trusted information, practical advice and financial support to families when they need it most.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps us be there for people living with kidney disease, and their loved ones.

Read Isabelle's story and find out how your support can make a difference 👉 https://kidneycareuk.org/get-involved/dolls/

We’re delighted to congratulate our Ambassador, Stephen Watson on being awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours. This is a very special and well-deserved honour; Stephen’s dedication, compassion and commitment mean that he is a true champion for those affected by kidney disease in Northern Ireland. We look forward to continuing to work alongside Stephen as we continue to support kidney patients and their loved ones to ensure that no one has to face kidney disease alone.

National Blood Week is all about inspiring the country to get talking about blood types. Do you know yours? You can join the conversation by sharing your blood type in the comments, using emojis 🅰 🅱 🆎 🅾 ➖ ➕

🔸 An average of 4,300 blood donations are needed every day to meet the needs of hospitals

🔸 There's an urgent need for new donors of Black heritage to help treat sickle cell. Safest treatments require closely matched blood and this match is most likely to come from a donor of the same ethnicity. This is also a very similar scenario when it comes to organ donation.

🔸 Kidney patients often need surgeries so may be more likely to require a blood transfusion. If you're unable to donate blood, including if you've already received a blood transfusion, then please share this with your friends and family. By encouraging friends and family to donate blood, they could potentially help other kidney patients across the UK who need a blood transfusion when in surgery.

If you are eligible, please consider becoming a blood donor. You can learn more and sign up here 👉 https://www.blood.co.uk/

Check out NHS Blood Donation to read the stories of some those who rely on blood donation.

We're proud to see our campaign posters being displayed in local pharmacies, including the Liphook Allied Pharmacy, pictured here!

By spreading awareness of kidney disease in our communities, we hope to encourage more people to check their kidney health, helping to increase early detection and improve outcomes.

Did you know that one of the posters featured in this campaign is also the back page of our latest Kidney Matters magazine? If you have a copy, why not ask your local café, library, community centre or workplace if they would be willing to display it? Every poster helps to start important conversations about kidney health.

There’s also a link on the poster to our free Kidney Health Checker, making it quick and easy for people to learn more about their risk and take positive steps towards protecting their kidney health.
