Feeling lonely is something many of us experience at different points in our lives but it can feel difficult to talk about.

Later life can bring big changes, from retirement and bereavement to health challenges, financial pressures or changes in routine and relationships. These experiences can affect how connected we feel to others.

Our latest article for explores some of the reasons older people experience loneliness and why it’s important to challenge the stigma around talking about it. It also highlights simple ways to build connection, from reconnecting with family and friends to getting involved in local activities, lifelong learning or volunteering.

Loneliness is more common than many people realise. Building social connection does not always mean making big changes. Sometimes it begins with one small step, one conversation or one new opportunity.

Our brilliant Communities team are looking for a new Our Heritage, Our Future Project Officer, supporting the team in delivering a programme of place-based cultural heritage activity.

Core aims of the role include:

- taking action to conserve and enhance historic monuments
- engaging with communities to bring heritage to life
- raising awareness of the importance of conserving heritage, and the benefits heritage can provide for individuals

We're looking for Board Members to join the Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board for The Braes Villages and Hallglen.

A Chair has now been appointed, and we're recruiting local people to join the Board and help shape how investment is delivered in the area. 🏘️

Pride in Place is a Β£20 million, ten-year UK Government-funded programme.

It's a voluntary role and no previous board experience is needed. The Board will be made up mainly of local residents, community representatives and businesses, and will help deliver the area's ten-year investment plan.

Board Member selection is taking place until Friday 10 July 2026.
