I am writing to invite you to a Special General Meeting that has been arranged for Wednesday 15th April 2026 at the Alderley Edge Union Club, 6. Stevens St, Alderley Edge SK9 7NL starting at 6:30pm.
The future of any Royal British Legion Branch depends upon having members to support it as well as Officers and a Committee to maintain and administer it. Members are our lifeblood and you play a vital role in ensuring that the Royal British Legion can continue to provide the lifelong support to the Armed Forces community, as well as upholding the importance of Remembrance.
Alderley Edge Branch has been dormant for many years and has been unable to fulfil the membership purpose of providing the Armed Forces family with friends and allies in every community. It is hoped that with some new interest, we can revitalise and revive the Branch. The forthcoming meeting will be the ideal opportunity to discuss this matter further and to formally attempt to revive the Branch with new Officers and a Committee.
All Branch Members are invited to attend the Special General Meeting where the following options will be discussed:
Retain full Branch Status – Election of Officers & Committee
To continue as a full Branch, the following positions must be filled:
Chair
Vice Chair (Optional)
Secretary
Treasurer
2 Committee Members
Become a County Supported Branch
If it is not possible to elect Branch Officers and a Committee, County Supported Branch status would be consider if the branch still do have a local footprint and support our charitable aims and objectives. It enables the Branch to continue to function but removes the necessity of electing Officers and a Committee. The Standard can continue to be paraded upon appointment of a Standard Bearer, who is trained, and our presence within the Community continues.
To attain County Supported Branch status, the following actions are required:
To appoint 2 Branch Points of Contacts.
Branch funds to be transferred to the County where they will be earmarked for Middleforth Branch.
To meet a minimum of twice per year, one meeting must be the AGM.
County Administration
If none of the above options are feasible, there will be no other alternative than the County to take the Branch into County administration until a time where the above 2 options are possible. County administration is where the Branch is supported by the County Committee instead of a Branch Committee and all Branch affairs including the Bank Account is under the control of the County until such time as the Branch are able to be independent once again.
For your information, I have enclosed the Branch Role Descriptors for all Branch Officer positions and that of a Branch Committee Member so that you are aware of what the roles entail. Training and guidance will be provided for all new branch committee members. There is no requirement for a member to be ex-service to take on a Branch role.
Should you be interested in filling a Branch Officer role or serving on the Branch Committee, please do attend the meeting and discuss the options with your County Chair, Mr Mike Bagshaw. I would like to thank you for your continued support and hope to see you at the arranged Special General Meeting.
It would be appreciated if you could confirm your attendance at the forthcoming meeting by contacting the county secretary, Mr Malcom Coates on the following email: [email protected]
