Empowering young people in Fiji’s highlands for skills, rights and opportunities
As part of Fiji’s International Youth Day 2026 celebrations, the ILO, UNFPA and OHCHR Pacific, in support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, engaged around 50 young women and men from villages across Navosa at the Nasau Youth Training Centre on 12 August 2026.
Participants in the Women’s Skills Training strengthened their knowledge on:
• Human rights and youth rights
• Youth employability and entrepreneurship
• Youth reproductive health and wellbeing
The sessions complemented practical skills training delivered earlier in the week in jewellery making, soap making, tie-and-dye, and online business.
For young women living in remote highland communities, access to skills, information and opportunities can help turn ideas into livelihoods. Their aspirations for economic independence, decent work and entrepreneurial success are no different from those of young people anywhere.
By combining practical skills with knowledge of rights, employability, entrepreneurship and wellbeing, the training is helping young people explore opportunities to establish local micro-enterprises, and strengthen their livelihoods.
The ILO remains committed to supporting young people in Fiji to access the skills and opportunities they need to build productive futures and contribute to resilient communities.
