🌍 Two Weeks in Tanzania – Encounters That Leave a Mark

📍 20 September – 3 October | Tanzania

Our team of ten Hungarian and Romanian volunteers spent nearly two weeks in northern Tanzania, visiting Supai and several local Maasai communities.

During this time:

* 🩺 Nearly 600 medical consultations and check-ups were provided.
* 👧 Around 800 children took part in games, songs, stories and educational activities.
* 🏡 Approximately 90 Maasai homes (bomas) were visited.
* 🍲 Around 150 people received lunch each day.
* ❤️ We shared conversations, health and parenting sessions, and moments of worship and spiritual fellowship.

But this journey was about much more than numbers.

One encounter stayed with me. A Maasai father approached us, extended his hand and simply said:

“I am glad you came. Last night, when I reached home, my children had new clothes. Thank you.”

Sometimes, a single sentence captures the meaning of an entire journey.

We encountered children’s joy, simple homes, genuine conversations, hospitality and generosity, even where resources were limited.

We arrived with medical supplies, clothes, shoes, games and stories. We returned with stories of our own, unforgettable memories and grateful hearts.

These two weeks became much more than a mission project. They were an opportunity to connect with people, experience a different way of life and discover something new about ourselves. ❤️ (Edmond Lucaciu)

🇹🇿 We are back in Tanzania, spending time among the Maasai. Once again, we are reminded that many things we take for granted are precious and often out of reach for people here.

💧 Three years ago, during our fifth attempt to drill a well, we finally found water at a depth of almost 200 meters. Since then, this well has been the only reliable water source within a 10 km radius. At sunrise, women and girls line up at the well, fill their containers, and carry this precious water home for several kilometers.

📚 Education is another such treasure. For us, going to school is something we take for granted. Here, for many children, it is a privilege.

🎓 This year, seven Maasai children successfully completed Grade 7 of primary school. In faith, we promised them that we would try to find sponsors who would make it possible for them to continue their education.

On Friday, they left for a boarding secondary school to attend a preparatory course. 🚌 For the first time, they can sleep on mattresses, receive several meals a day, live on a clean, green campus, and simply turn on a tap to get water. ❤️

But many children are still at home. Among them are orphans, children who have lost one parent, and children from families who simply cannot afford the cost of education. They want to learn and have dreams for their future, but they need someone to give them a chance.

👧🏿👦🏿 Together with the school and village leaders, we identified children who are especially in need of support. I took a photo of each child and prepared a short personal profile.

Adina came from Moldova to join our Maasai Project in May and will stay with us until October, supporting the children's education and development.

During the school holidays, she organized a week-long camp that drew 100–120 children each day. She gives her whole heart to serving and is always ready to help wherever she is needed—whether in the kitchen, with administration, organizing activities for the children, or providing musical accompaniment at church.

With her warm smile, positive attitude, and willingness to serve, Adina brings joy wherever she goes.

She is a true blessing to our project, the children, and the whole community. We are deeply grateful for her dedication and all she does here. ❤️

🙏🏻 This year’s graduates have completed primary school (Karao Adventist Pre- and Primary School). Today and tomorrow, they are taking the exams that may determine the course of their future.

The results of these exams will decide whether they can continue their education or have to stay at home — and for the girls, whether they may be married off.

If we come back next year, we might already see some of them with a little baby in their arms.

That is why today, we are praying especially for these seven children: that they will do well in their exams and have the opportunity to continue their education.

They all performed well in the preliminary exams, so we are hopeful that a brighter future is waiting for them. 🙏

"The last two weeks of May were an abundant blessing for the Romanian group of pastors and their wives who participated in a foreign mission project in Tanzania for the Masai people, organized and supported by the Supai foundation.
The group started their day with spiritual devotion and then split into groups for three types of activities: medical checkup, home visitation, and children's activities. The local Masai communities benefited by this initiative being provided food, medicine, resources for children and spiritual counselling.
Six villages were visited during the two weeks, Karao, Langata, Mirowa, Oldorko, Orbomba, Darajani.
This missionary effort was beneficial for all who have participated since every activity consisted of volunteer work and support of the local leaders through seminars, but also specially prepared seminars for the Masai women, helping them with the challenges of everyday life.
We are grateful for the support and guidance of Supai Foundation and also for the financial aid of the South Transylvanian Conference and all the donors that felt the urge of giving to those in need."- wrote Pastor Lucaciu
