🇵🇸 WINNIPEG: STAND FOR JUSTICE
This Saturday, we gather at the steps of the Manitoba Legislative Building to mark the Nakba—the "Catastrophe." For Palestinians, this is not just a date in a history book; it is a living reality.
What is the Nakba?
The Nakba refers to the mass displacement and dispossession of Palestinians in 1948. It represents the loss of homeland, the fracturing of families, and the beginning of a decades-long struggle for the basic right to exist in peace.
Why it Matters to Everyone
The Nakba is a human rights issue. When we speak of the Nakba, we speak of:
International Law: The fundamental right of refugees to return to their homes, as enshrined in UN Resolution 194.
Universal Justice: If the rights of one group can be ignored under the eyes of the global community, the safety of all marginalized people is at risk.
Generational Trauma: This is the "Ongoing Nakba." The trauma of 1948 has been passed down through generations, compounded by modern-day displacement and systemic hardship.
"To be neutral in situations of injustice is to choose the side of the oppressor."
We stand together to demand accountability, to honor the resilience of the Palestinian people, and to insist that international law be applied equally to all.
