We would like to sincerely thank the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre for their ongoing partnership and for generously donating tickets for our group to attend Rubaboo – A Métis Cabaret on May 20, 2026. This fantastic opportunity gave residents from the EHI Transitional Housing Facility – Selkirk Wahkowtowin Place the chance to experience the excitement, energy, and connection that live theatre brings. For some of our residents, this was the first play they had ever experienced. Residents enjoyed the performance alongside EHI staff members and volunteers, making it a special experience to share together.
The name Rubaboo means soup in the Michif language. As part of the play, the cast members created a metaphorical Rubaboo on stage using fire, water, earth, and air. This beautiful production blended storytelling, music, and traditional Métis ceremony. The play was both entertaining and deeply meaningful for our residents. Some residents connected personally with the Indigenous cultural elements and storytelling, while others gained a deeper appreciation and understanding of the traditions and experiences being shared.
The Royal MTC team also generously provided our group with a tour of their facility, giving residents an opportunity to see what happens behind the scenes of a theatre production. They also kindly provided snacks and refreshments for our residents, staff, and volunteers, which made the evening feel even more welcoming and special.
Attending this play gave our residents an opportunity to build connections with one another, as well as with EHI staff, volunteers, and Royal MTC staff. At EHI, we believe opportunities like this help foster a strong sense of community and belonging for our residents.
Thank you once again to the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre for your generosity, hospitality, and partnership in supporting our residents in such a meaningful and impactful way!
