Nova's Ark is a registered charity providing stimulating experiences for people of all ages and abilities involving a wide range of exotic, gentle animals. The volunteer peer mentors are a key factor in the successful integration of our visitors with the animals, allowing for unique and positive memorable experiences. Supported by private and corporate donations, Nova's Ark provides programs and a

ctivities that benefit the community in various ways. Nova's Ark has created many customized day visits, summer camp opportunities and off site presentations for service organizations, group home facilities and special event functions. The development of the youth leadership program has created an impact felt throughout the Durham community and various social service agencies.

During Forest Programming, we worked on dyeing sheared wool using natural elements! We used flowers, fruits and even vegetables to create some beautiful colours. What an interesting experiment that not only was environmentally friendly, but super exciting. Our teams are always up to great adventures in the forest!

We want to extend a very special thank-you to our volunteer extraordinaire, Dave, as he officially retires from Nova’s Ark.

All that Dave has done for us for over 10+ years is truly amazing! The list goes on for all of the unique projects that Dave has helped us complete. Our participants, staff, animals and other volunteers have been truly impacted by his presence.

Dave, you will truly be missed by us all, but once again, it is never goodbye; it is a see you later!

Hooray! Last month, we celebrated the land and 21 years of Nova’s Ark as a registered charity during our 4th Annual Family and Friends Day! It was a truly lovely day to celebrate with everyone who has helped make Nova’s Ark who we are today.

We have huge thank yous to so many who contributed to make this day amazing:

☀️Our families and friends who came out to share similarities and celebrate differences.

☀️Our outstanding volunteers and Animal Care team, in their yellow shirts, who went the extra mile to make this day so incredible.

☀️A special shoutout to Tyler and Dax, our Nova’s Ark Ambassadors, who were so respectful towards our Therapy Animals while teaching others about our unique facility.

☀️Bawaajigewin Aboriginal Community Circle for sharing the tradition of the sacred fire and drumming circle.

☀️MP Juanita Nathan for joining us in our celebrations and always being a huge support for our unique grassroots charity.

☀️Manhattin Kitchen & Eatery for serving up delicious food while being so understanding of our community.

☀️The Oshawa Firewolves lacrosse team for setting aside the time to teach our families and friends about your team and for having Alphie come out to say hello.

☀️Graham, the bus driver of Durhamways, for keeping such a positive attitude while shuttling our families and friends to and from Nova’s Ark.

☀️Pet Valu Scarborough on Steels Ave. E., for donating goodie bags for our families and friends to bring home to their pets, who most definitely enjoyed them.

☀️Eduardo, the talented videographer, for creating a beautiful documentary of our special day.

☀️Take Two Photography, for taking time out of your busy schedules, to spend time at our unique facility and capture some beautiful photos.

☀️Maria for outdoing herself with a truly one-of-a-kind cake, yet another year in a row.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us! Our journey throughout the last 21 years has been so incredible because of each and every one of you. We are so looking forward to what the future has in store for us!

Stay tuned for our slideshow, which will share lots of photos from our day!

A huge thank you to Mike for hand-creating these beautiful Woodspirits for us! Mike is a talented woodcarver who pulls inspiration from everyday life to create these one-of-a-kind pieces.

Woodspirits are often seen as guardians of the forest, embodying the powerful and untamed forces of nature. They are believed to bring good luck and protection to those who possess them.

These Woodspirits are proudly hung up in the forest for all of our friends to see!

Today, we wore our red shirts to advocate for Accessibility and Inclusion! Not only during Red Shirt Day and National Accessibility Week, but every day, we ensure our activities, programming and unique facility are accessible for all abilities. At Nova’s Ark, we are proud to consistently find innovative ways to include all of our friends!

Thank you so much to John from Kuepfer Custom Shearing, who sheared all of our alpaca and sheep friends! John was so kind, respectful and gentle towards our therapy animals while creating such a peaceful shearing environment for them. We will now be using the sheared wool for activities in our forest programming and as a unique sensory experience for our participants.

Our woolly friends are now ready for the summer weather!

Thank you so much to the Durham Attack 15U Meteors for all of your hard work! This incredible team helped w**d our entire lower park and clean it up with fresh woodchips. It’s so wonderful to see such a dedicated group of young individuals make a big difference. Thank you!
