💙 You might be a caregiver and not even know it 💙

Through our Commit to Community campaign, we’re shining a light on the hidden caregivers — those who are simply “helping out” someone they love.

💡 Sound familiar? You may be a caregiver if you help with appointments, meals, rides, or everyday tasks.
Caregiving is a natural part of community — but it can be tough to do alone. That’s why Community Care Durham is here to help. 🌱

💙 Join us in recognizing caregivers — including yourself — and help us support them.

💚 Our Adult Day Program is more than just a place to spend the day — it’s where connection, care, and purpose come together. 🌟

Every visit brings meaningful engagement, therapeutic support, and a true sense of belonging, not just for our clients, but for their families too.

Take Mike, for example. When he first joined after the pandemic, he felt nervous. But everything changed when Jim took him under his wing. The two quickly formed a close friendship.

💬 “They sit beside each other all the time, and they’re never separated. Mike just loves him,” says Margaret, Mike’s wife.

Knowing Mike is safe, cared for, and surrounded by friends gives Margaret peace of mind and the time she needs to take care of herself, too. 💙

Through our Commit to Community campaign, your support helps moments like these happen every day.

💚 Donate today to help create more connections, more care, and more meaningful days — one person at a time.

🌟 Celebrating a Lifetime of Giving Back 🌟

Congratulations to Gail Elliott, who was recognized with a Citizen Volunteer Award and named Senior of the Year by the City of Oshawa on June 18! 🎉

Gail began volunteering with CCD in 1977 — not for recognition, awards, or accolades, but simply because helping others felt like the right thing to do. For nearly five decades, she has embodied the true spirit of volunteerism, giving her time, energy, and heart to support her community.

While Gail was all smiles as she accepted this well-deserved honour alongside her fellow recipients, those who know her understand that her impact has never been about being in the spotlight. She serves quietly, consistently, and wholeheartedly, making a difference in countless lives along the way.

Oshawa and the Region of Durham are stronger, kinder, and more connected because of people like Gail.

💙 Thank you, Gail, for your dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to community. This recognition is richly deserved, and we are proud to celebrate you today and every day.

Did you know that 1 in 4 Canadians is a caregiver? Or that 13% are “sandwich caregivers,” supporting both children and dependent adults at the same time.

They are the silent strength behind our health system, but they’re often overlooked, overworked, and under-supported.

Through our campaign, we’re taking action 💙

Your support helps prevent caregiver burnout through:

🛋️ In-Home Respite
👥 Adult Day Programs
🚐 Assisted Transportation Services
✨ There’s still time to make a difference.

Give the gift of support today.
