Our workshops are small (capped at 15 participants) and involve peer-based learning, experiential activities, and group discussions. We aim to accommodate a variety of access needs - see accessibility description below. Our workshops are interactive and are not webinar/presentation format.

Foundations of Facilitation
July 11, 10:00am - 12:30pm PST
What is a facilitator and what skills do we need to facilitate? This workshop will discuss what a facilitator’s role is in a group. Participants will explore foundational tools for facilitating and how to create safer, more supportive, and productive peer-led groups. This introductory workshop is open to folks with little or no facilitation experience as well as those with facilitation experience looking to brush up on their foundational skills and connect with peers.

Facilitating Group Decisions
July 16, 5:00pm - 7:00pm PST
Whether you are a grassroots group, a group of volunteers, or a staff team, decisions need to be made for groups to get things done together. How can a facilitator support a group to make a decision? What processes are there for group decision-making? In this workshop, we will explore various models and frameworks for groups to make decisions together and practice some of those models using hypothetical scenarios.

This workshop builds confidence in handling tricky moments in facilitation while centering anti-oppressive and intersectional approaches to real-life challenges that occur when facilitating dynamic and diverse groups. In this workshop, we will explore scenarios and real-life examples from participants; we will brainstorm and co-learn together about how to address them. This workshop is for those who have taken our Foundations of Facilitation workshop and/or who have experience facilitating groups.

🎊 It's time for our Annual General Meeting 2024/2025! 🎉

Join us for a night of community, appreciation, engagement, and celebration at PeerNetBC’s Annual General Meeting for the 2024/2025 year. Last year, we asked ourselves: What is PeerNetBC? Who is PeerNetBC? We found clarity in the answers to those questions in the form of a revised mission, vision, and guiding values.

At this year’s AGM, we will discuss the past year at PeerNetBC from staff and board finalizing our new mission, vision, and guiding values together to 2024/2025 project highlights. We will also be going over our Annual Report featuring reflections from our board and staff. In addition, we will go over official AGM business, including elections for our Board of Directors.

This AGM is led by hearing facilitators. We acknowledge that providing ASL interpreters is only one of many steps to make our programming more accessible to communities. ASL interpretation is available for this event.

This event will be held digitally via Zoom on September 29, 2024 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm PST. Please find more information, as well as register, through Eventbrite.

A Note on Membership and Voting:

Over the past several months, PeerNetBC has been working on reviewing its bylaws and membership practices. Our hope is to better align these with our new structure, as well as be in compliance with the Society Act.

Register 2 weeks before the AGM to vote! Based on our bylaws, anyone who registers to be a member at least 2 weeks before the AGM can vote. You can still become a member after that time and attend the AGM, but you will not be able to vote during the event.

PeerNetBC is actively recruiting for folks to be on our Board of Directors. PeerNetBC is a non-profit organization located, and primarily serves communities on the on the traditional, unceded territories of the skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), selílwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and xwmǝe kwǝyǝm (Musqueam) nations lands colonially known as ‘British Columbia.’

PeerNetBC aims to provide direct peer driven service that supports people to learn and connect with each other through shared lived experiences. Some of this work looks like: in house and custom workshops, collaborations, consultations, projects, partnerships, supporting community initiatives, and much more. We do this programming through capacity-building rooted in anti-oppressive and intersectional values, and always looking to learn more.

If you’d like to support and be a part of grassroots organizing, come check us out. We’re a fun team of sick, neurodivergent, QTBIPOC, allies, and self-proclaimed misfits and nerds. We’d love to have you!

This workshop will identify roles of the facilitator and delve into the facilitator’s toolkit that assist facilitators to effectively create safer, more supportive, and productive peer-led groups. This introductory workshop is open to folks with little or no facilitation experience as well as those with facilitation experience looking to brush up on their foundational skills and connect with peers. To be eligible for “Foundations of Facilitation”, participants must have taken an anti-oppression workshop with PeerNetBC, or be able to identify examples of: colonialism, intersectionality, and systemic oppression. This course is a prerequisite for “Building on Foundations of Facilitation”.

Facilitation 2: Building on Foundations of Facilitation

This workshop builds confidence in handling tricky moments while centering anti-oppressive and intersectional approaches. We will explore how to navigate common real-life challenges that occur when facilitating dynamic and diverse groups. In this workshop you will learn how to build frameworks that lead groups in participatory decision making and practical strategies for fostering equitable, engaging conversations.

Ideal for those who have had challenging facilitation experience and looking to try something new. Please refer to PeerNetBC’s prerequisites portion of registration before signing up for this workshop.
