The Shannonville Fair dates are quickly approaching, and the Shannonville Agricultural Society needs your help!
We can use help from anyone that can lend a hand. Young or old, no matter your skill set. We can use your help if its for one hour, two hours, or more to help out with the pre-Fair setup, during the Fair, and for the post-Fair tear-down and cleanup. If you're a student, this is a great opportunity to earn some hours towards your volunteer requirement. I took a bit of a crop tour today. I could smell the winter barley from afar so I just had to take a closer look. It is ripening fast with pockets of gold here and there. It’s probably at its most vulnerable stage - wind and heavy rain can flatten it in seconds.

It inspired me to write a poem…..

The barley’s slowly turning gold at last,
A quiet nod to seasons past.
From springtime shoots so green and slight,
It now glows softly in the light.

Each gentle breeze sends waves that roll,
Across the field like nature’s soul.
A promise ripening day by day,
Of harvest soon upon its way.

For farmers, it’s a welcome sight,
The year’s hard work now shining bright. 🌾

𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐏 𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐓 📢 Calling all Region 2 4-H’ers!

There are two bursaries made for you! 🍀 Are you pursuing post-secondary education, further training, skill development or an apprenticeship program?

The Central Canada Exhibition legacy bursary will award two $2,000 bursaries to eligible Region 2 4-H participants in Eastern Ontario.

Applicants must be active in 4-H for at least five consecutive years and reside in Carleton, Dundas, Frontenac, Glengarry, Grenville, Lanark, Leeds, Prescott, Renfrew, Stormont or Russell.

Applications are due August 1, 2026 at 5 p.m.
