Tweed & Area Arts Council

Tweed & Area Arts Council Our vision since 2006: Enriching the cultural life of the community through the arts. A charitable not-for-profit organization run by volunteers.

Established in 2006, we are a charitable, non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers. We are known for developing the Marble Arts Centre (MAC) in Actinolite, our annual ‘Art in the Park’ event, Marble Arts Student Theatre classes, many plays, concerts, movies and other events at the MAC and other venues. Our website highlights arts events, artists and artisans in Tweed & Area. In 2022, wit

h the transfer of the ownership of the Marble Arts Centre to Tweed & Company Theatre (it is still 'our home'!), we are looking to the future with a new Strategic Plan and priorities! Our Vision: Enriching the cultural life of the community through the arts. What We Do:

• Foster connections with and between artists and the community
• Produce, promote, and support arts experiences
• Collaborate to raise awareness of the arts
• Encourage participation of all in the arts

Our Strategic Priorities

1: Enrich Cultural Life
T&AAC was founded in 2006 on the belief that arts are for everyone. T&AAC is committed to producing, supporting, and promoting high-quality arts experiences.

2: Community Collaboration
Celebrating the wealth and diversity of artists, talents, and arts organizations in the community, T&AAC recognizes the importance of supporting the arts community through active partnerships and collaborations. T&AAC is committed to acting as a facilitator and umbrella to align opportunities for the arts to flourish.

3: Advocacy for the Arts
Now more than ever, artists and arts organizations need to organize together and align efforts to advocate for the arts. T&AAC is committed to strategically engage with broader networks and local decision-makers to demonstrate the impact and opportunities generated by the arts.

4: Build Capacity
At the heart of T&AAC’s achievements is the dedication of passionate volunteers. As a non-profit, charitable organization run by volunteers, success depends on the active participation of volunteers and a strong membership base. T&AAC is committed to building a strong network of volunteers and members to enhance and sustain TAAC’s capacity.

Less than 2 weeks until Tweed’s Front Porch Ruckus on Saturday, June 27, 2026! Here is the initial map showing the location of 20 porches that are hosting 23 sets of performers. Music will once again drift across the village of Tweed for another afternoon of free, family-friendly live music. The main event is 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm, with two 'afterparties:'
1) 5 pm at the Legion with 'Break the Night', and
2) 4:30 pm to ? at the Cube Coffee Bar, featuring multiple performers, Thai finger foods and signature cocktails

The Ruckus transforms Tweed into an open-air music venue, with performers appearing on front porches, patios, lawns and other spaces scattered across the community. Residents and visitors are encouraged to stroll from location to location, discovering everything from folk, rock, pop and country to jazz and community band performances.

This year’s event headquarters will be located at the Victoria Street parkette 321 Victoria St. North in ‘downtown Tweed’, where visitors can pick up maps and information, enjoy complimentary water and take part in free face painting activities for children.

An email was sent this morning to confirmed porch hosts and performers; let us know if you have not received it!

Our event webpage (https://tweedartscouncil.ca/event/tweeds-front-porch-ruckus/ ) will be updated as new or revised information is available. You can also check out the Tweed's Front Porch Ruckus and this Tweed & Area Arts Council pages! More information in the attached:

Note that this is ‘rain or shine’!

The Ruckus is an all-volunteer grassroots event, organized by the Tweed & Area Arts Council, and we thank the generous porch hosts, performers and sponsors that make it possible!

The current ‘In Conversation with Artists’ features painter Mark Robinson. His work is on display until the end of August at the Tweed Public Library, Quinn's of Tweed Fine Art Gallery and the Marble Arts Centre. Mark is a self-taught artist and lifelong farmer based in Madoc, whose deep connection to the land informs his work. After years in photography—where he developed a strong understanding of subject, framing, focus, light, and shadow—he turned to acrylic painting nearly 15 years ago. Working from a small studio on his farm, he creates evocative nature and landscape scenes inspired by hiking and canoeing, often drawing on his own photographic references.
