On Friday November 28, Members of Bayan Toronto and the Tama Na Toronto Alliance mobilized to the Philippine Consulate to express the Filipino Masses’ indignation regarding the recent corruption scandals. Anakbayan North York members support the call for the ousting of Marcos-Duterte and the establishment of a National Transition Council to hold accountable the corrupt officials who have yet to face any consequences for their involvement in fraud flood control projects, and ultimately, for stealing trillions of pesos from the Filipino people.

Today, on International Human Rights Day, we recognize that the issue of corruption has deep effects on the rights of the majority population of the Philippines. The lack of jobs, the lack of land, and the lack of government support keep Filipinos struggling under water even after a climate disaster. And the government continues to turn its back on its own people by signing unequal agreements with foreign powers like Canada’s Status of Visiting Forces Agreement, rather than investing in education, healthcare, housing, flood control infrastructure, and basic social services. This type of agreement mirrors what is already happening with the United States’ Visiting Forces Agreement, which has only worsened human rights abuses, environmental plunder, and escalated tensions with China.

A National Transition Council, that is representative of the Filipino people - Women, Farmers, Workers, Indigenous people - and a mass movement can spark the change to the current rotten system. It is up to us to change the system ourselves! Into one that will listen and take action for the people and one that will actually represent the underserved and end the rule of political dynasties.

📣 Are you agitated about the corruption in the Philippines?

🤔 Have you been thinking about how you can take action against this current system that clearly does not serve the people?

Our kababayan back home have been left to fend for themselves, to rebuild their own homes, and have even lost loved ones due to back-to-back massive typhoons sweeping the country, while current President Marcos Jr. was away on foreign trips to flaunt his so-called “achievements” in the Philippines. Billions of taxpayer dollars have been taken from the Filipino people, supposedly put towards “ghost” projects and half-built infrastructure meant to aid with floods. But as corrupt officials continue to line their pockets with the people’s money, it is the workers, the urban poor, the farmers and their land, the everyday Filipinos, who continue to suffer.

We as Filipino Youth in the diaspora must take action and address the root causes - such as corruption - that have forced us to leave our homes. If the opportunities and services that we search for abroad were available in the Philippines, that can be a step towards a future where we are no longer exploited as cheap labour overseas and keep our families together.

Join us on November 20 at York University’s Keele Campus to learn more about Anakbayan and our struggle for the liberation of the Filipino people and genuine national democracy!

This open orientation will also serve as a fundraiser for Sagip Migrante, a grassroots campaign that aims to support victims of back to back super typhoons Tino (Kalmaegi) and Uwan (Fung-Wong). Etransfer: [email protected] with the note “SAGIP MIGRANTE” — any amount helps.

Anakbayan Canada is launching Paaralang Bonifacio, a series of National Democratic studies for Filipino youth in Canada to connect with our roots through our history, to make sense of the present, and understand the youth’s role in the people’s struggle.

Paaralang Bonifacio is named after Andres Bonifacio, commemorating his heroism as one of the notable Filipinos who struggled for the liberation of the Filipino people from Spanish colonial rule.

Currently in the Philippines, floods have been displacing millions while billions vanished through corruption. The cost of living continues to rise, activists are red-tagged, and the poorest are left behind. The worsening conditions have been revealing themselves, and the people have been responding, especially the youth, who are taking to the streets to demand accountability and real change. Here in the diaspora, the same conditions shape our lives, and we share the same anger and desire for change.

In the face of this, Paaralang Bonifacio is for Filipino youth who want to understand why these crises persist, learn from our people’s history of resistance, and participate in building a liberated future.

The first in our series will be a discussion on “Youth on the March” by Jose Maria Sison, exploring the lessons it offers for youth and student organizing today. We will also hear from activists from different eras of the youth movement, sharing their experiences and struggles both at home and in the diaspora. See you there!

If you can’t make it, catch up with us at our open orientation in North York on November 20th! Register: tinyurl.com/ABNY2025

Anakbayan North York is calling on all Filipino Youth - students, workers, artists - to carry the torch of resistance and join the movement towards a better future for all!

The theme is: What future are you fighting for? With rising costs of living, increased tuition for education, and cuts to social services, the pockets of corrupt officials continue to grow while a future for Filipino Youth in the Philippines and abroad seem far from sustainable

However, we are seeing the youth rise up and embody the revolutionary spirit of Andres Bonifacio and the Katipunan, taking the lead to flood the streets on September 21, leading school walkouts, challenging the status quo, and fighting for a better world.

Leading up to Bonifacio Day, we are hosting an open orientation for Filipino Youth to learn about the history of resistance in the Philippines and how we can carry on the legacy by getting organized!

Make Anakbayan North York your political home where we can imagine and create a future we
believe in!

We’ll have food, cultural performances, and time to get to know more members of our

Anakbayan North York stands in solidarity with the peasant masses of the Philippines against corruption! Families like the Marcoses, Cojuangcos, Aquinos, and Dutertes have monopolized the land while exploiting millions of peasant farmers. These political dynasty families enjoy the fruits of the back breaking labour of peasant farmers and sell out the Philippines to foreign imperialists and corporations.

Meanwhile peasant farmers suffer from hunger, poverty, and landlessness, plunged further into debt by the lack of government support and loans from greedy landlords. Ultimately, they are forced to leave their lands to go to the cities to make a living — or become part of the 7,000 Filipinos who leave the country every day to find work.

Over the last few weeks, the tides are turning and the people are rising up against the power of political dynasties! The people demand an end to politicians’ unchecked greed and violence, protected by a reactionary state that seeks only to serve themselves.

The whole system is rotten to the core! No matter who is in power, the reactionary state will remain in favour of landlords and political dynasties. We join the calls of .intl! Down with bureaucrat capitalism! Ikulong, panagutin ng mga korap! Hold accountable all those complicit!

July 27 | Toronto | People’s SONA 2025 | Bathurst-Wilson Parkette

📣 JOIN THE PEOPLE UNITED VS THE US-MARCOS-DUTERTE REGIME 📣

🟦In the blue corner: Ferdinand “BBM” Marcos Jr - son of a dictator, puppet of U.S. interests, dodging accountability, red-tagging activists, and blocking wage hikes while cost of living soar. He promises a “Bagong Pilipinas” but the people are calling foul on the lies, repression and corruption

🟥In the red corner: The Filipino People - workers, farmers, youth, women, Indigenous peoples, and migrants abroad. Fed up with poverty, injustice, and betrayal, they’re rising with fists raised and voices louder, punches rolling as they fight for the genuine interests of the people

Oppressive, Puppet, Corrupt, Fascist: the people are calling it like it is.
BBM may deliver his scripted SONA, but the People’s SONA will deliver the truth!

From blocked wage hikes to expanding US military bases in the PH, from election manipulation to delaying Sara Duterte’s impeachment, the hits keep coming but the masses aren’t backing down.
We are organizing, mobilizing, and throwing punches in the ring of struggle! ✊🏼

MIGRANTE CANADA STATEMENT

On the Inaction of the Marcos Jr. Regime on the Urgent Call for Wage Hikes

Migrante Canada joins Filipino workers and labour rights advocates in the Philippines in condemning the continued inaction of the Marcos Jr.-controlled House of Representatives and Senate on proposals for an increase in the daily minimum wage. While workers and their families struggle with skyrocketing prices and the ever-worsening cost of living, this deliberate inaction exposes the government’s lack of concern for the plight of the working class.

The refusal to convene the bicameral conference committee to reconcile the House and Senate versions of the wage hike bill is a clear act of betrayal. It shows how Marcos Jr. and his administration are content to pass on the responsibility to the regional wage boards — institutions that have long denied the workers’ demand for a meaningful and nationwide across-the-board wage increase. Even the proposed ₱100 or ₱200 increases fall far short of the ₱1,200 family living wage that workers need to support a family of five with the most basic necessities.

Migrante Canada denounces the lies being spread by the Marcos Jr. government and big businesses that wage hikes would fuel inflation or harm capitalists. Research, such as that from IBON Foundation, proves otherwise. A ₱200 wage hike would reduce annual corporate profits by only 9% to 15%, a small price to pay to ensure that workers can live decently. In fact, increasing wages would stimulate the local economy, as workers would have more to spend on food, housing, and other basic needs.

As migrant workers forced to leave the Philippines because of low wages and joblessness, we stand in firm solidarity with our fellow workers in the Philippines. We echo their calls for a ₱1,200 family living wage, the protection of their right to unionize and to strike, and the need for genuine reforms to address the root causes of poverty and forced migration.

We call on all Filipinos, both in the Philippines and abroad, to strengthen the struggle for just wages, workers’ rights, and a truly pro-people government that prioritizes the well-being of the majority, not the profits and interests of a few. # # #
