Meet Ethan 💛
In January 2019, Ethan’s life changed in an instant when he was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a cancerous brain tumour that had spread to his spine.
Over the next 13 months, Ethan underwent four brain surgeries, travelled to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis for 30 proton radiation treatments, completed months of chemotherapy, and faced multiple complications along the way.
Through it all, Chai Lifeline Canada was there.
During long hospital days, Chai brought Ethan toys to help make treatment a little brighter. He was also matched with his Chai Big Brother, Kevin, who became a source of friendship, fun, and support throughout treatment and beyond.
In January 2021, Ethan and his family received the news they had been hoping and praying for: there was no evidence of disease. Today, Ethan is six years cancer free. 💛
And Chai is still part of his story.
Ethan has gone from receiving toys during treatment to helping collect hundreds of toys for other children facing illness. He loves Camp Simcha, and this past year, Chai was there to celebrate another incredible milestone with him: his Bar Mitzvah.
Because Chai’s support doesn’t end when treatment does. We’re there through the hard days, the celebrations, the milestones, and everything that comes after.
This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we’re honoured to share Ethan’s story and celebrate how far he has come. 💛
