🎬 Film Spotlight – Blue Heron
Discover Blue Heron, a poetic and deeply personal film that explores memory, family history, and the fragile threads that connect generations. With a quiet, observational style, the film reflects on loss, legacy, and the emotional weight of what we inherit.
Director Sophy Romvari comes from a family of artists, and this creative lineage plays an important role in the film. Her father was involved in filmmaking, while her grandfather was also part of the artistic world, shaping a multi-generational connection to storytelling and image-making.
Romvari has Hungarian roots, her family emigrated from Hungary before she was born, which deeply informs the film’s perspective and themes.
Through Blue Heron, Romvari not only tells a personal story, but also engages with this inherited artistic legacy, examining how family history, memory, and creative practice intertwine across time.
🎥 The film premiered internationally to major acclaim and was awarded the Best Canadian Discovery Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, and has since received numerous other international honors.
We’re excited to screen the film at the Mari Törőcsik Hungarian Film Festival!
🎟Tickets for the Blue Heron movie are now available at https://www.tohuff.com/screenings/blue-heron
Don’t miss this intimate and thought-provoking cinematic experience. ✨

As part of commemorating the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, the festival pays tribute with the powerful and deeply moving film The Orphan (Árva) 🎬
Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker László Jeles Nemes — best known for his Oscar-winning masterpiece Son of Saul 🏆 — the film brings his signature visual style and emotional depth to a new and compelling story.
The Orphan (2025) is set in the spring of 1957, in Budapest following the suppression of the 1956 Revolution. It tells the story of 12-year-old Andor, who lives with his mother, when a stranger appears in their lives claiming to be his father. ✨🏆Audience Award Goes to Barney’s Version by Robert Lantos ✨🏆
We are incredibly proud to share that in 2025, for the very first time, world-famous Canadian–Hungarian film producer Robert Lantos attended the Mari Törőcsik Hungarian Film Festival.
During the festival, we screened his film Barney’s Version, which won the Audience Award 2025 — a truly special moment for us and for our audience.
Following the festival, Robert Lantos kindly invited us to his home, where we had the honor of presenting him with his award. It was a warm, inspiring, and unforgettable experience.
Looking ahead, we are already planning to screen another Robert Lantos film in 2026 🎬
✨ Stay tuned — exciting announcements are coming soon!
