If you’re 35 or under and ready to create an original orchestral work, this is your chance to work alongside industry experts, receive mentorship, and have your piece performed by the National Youth Orchestra of Canada on tour.

A look back at Days 3 & 4 of the Screen Music Lab 🎬✨

Score editing, recordings with the orchestra, a panel discussion with the mentors, and the final screening of the projects: the 16 composers from across the country wrapped up this valuable collaboration with director Alexa-Jeanne Dubé at the University of Sherbrooke’s School of Music.

A heartfelt thank you to the University of Sherbrooke, the SCGC, the BEAM, and the SPACQ-AE, as well as everyone who made this project possible! 🧡🎞️

A look back at the fifth annual Indigenous Song Camp, presented by Amazon Music, in partnership with SOCAN Foundation and sākihiwē festival.

The camp brought Indigenous and non-Indigenous songwriters, artists, and producers from across the country to Kilometre House in Toronto for a week of songwriting, collaboration, and community. We had so much fun, and some GREAT music came out of it. 👀

It’s now been six consecutive years that we have presented this award in partnership with SiriusXM, celebrating a total of 30 Black music creators along the way.

TOBi, recipient of the inaugural SiriusXM Award for Black Canadian Music in 2020, reflects on the impact of the award and shares a message for this year’s recipients.

On July 18, Liam Ritz’s new work, Pulse, commissioned through the SOCAN Foundation Composer Mentorship Program with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada premiered at Koerner Hall, performed by NYO Canada and conducted by NYO’s 2026-2027 Music Director, Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser.

A six-time winner of our Young Composers Awards, Liam was selected as the 2026 Emerging Composer in Residence. Part of NYO Canada’s Canadiana tour, the program also included works by Edward Elgar and Richard Strauss. NYO Canada Liam Ritz 📸 photos: Stuart Lowe

Le 18 juillet, Pulse, la nouvelle œuvre de Liam Ritz commandée dans le cadre du Programme de mentorat pour compositeurs de la Fondation SOCAN, en collaboration avec l’Orchestre national des jeunes du Canada, a été présentée en première au Koerner Hall. Elle était interprétée par NYO Canada sous la direction de Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, directeur musical de l’ONJ pour 2026-2027.

Six fois lauréat de notre Concours des jeunes compositeurs, Liam a été choisi comme compositeur émergent en résidence pour 2026. Présenté dans le cadre de la tournée Canadiana de l’ONJ du Canada, le programme comprenait également des œuvres d’Edward Elgar et de Richard Strauss.

SOCAN Foundation is running 1-on-1 production drop-in sessions facilitated by our summer intern, Pranav ‘Akrylic’ Gurung. Swipe to see what artists Skaty Pham and Osani Balkaran have to say about their experience.

These individualized sessions will focus on music production and engineering, offering hands-on guidance for artists at any stage of their creative journey.

La Fondation SOCAN propose des cliniques 1:1 de production musicale animées par notre stagiaire d’été, Pranav « Akrylic » Gurung. Faites défiler les images pour découvrir ce que les artistes Skaty Pham et Osani Balkaran ont pensé de leur expérience.

Le niveau 1 du programme de mentorat Équité X Production 2026 (francophone) s'est conclu la semaine passée avec 2 journées de résidence de création au bureau de la SOCAN. 10 participantes ont bénéficié du mentorat et des connaissances de MH Delorme // FOXTROTT et Catherine Dagenais pour développer leur pratique artistique et leur production musicale. La communauté de productrices continue de grandir!

Level 1 of the Equity X Production mentorship program 2026 (in French) wrapped up last week with 2 days of creative residency at SOCAN’s office. 10 participants benefited from the mentorship and expertise of Foxtrott and Catherine Dagenais to further develop their artistic practice and music production. The community of women producers keeps growing!

The SOCAN Foundation’s Screen Music Lab is back! This year, it is presented in collaboration with SOCAN to offer two cohorts the opportunity to compose music alongside a director mentor and two composer mentors: Erica Procunier and Jérémie Corriveau.

A new collaboration with the École de musique de l'Université de Sherbrooke will allow composers to work in professional, world‑class facilities and record with musicians from the Sherbrooke Symphony Orchestra.
