In March, we look forward to welcoming Teresa Duryea-Wong for an online only meeting via Zoom.

Go back in time, to a fascinating point in Japan’s history when cotton & indigo – two epic plants – forever changed Japan’s textile world. Meet the masters who are preserving the old traditions of indigo dyeing and meet the quilters who have dedicated their quiltmaking to working with antique cotton. Learn the stories behind traditional cotton textiles such as kasuri, katazome and kimono cloth and how a handful of Japanese weavers are continuing these traditions into the 21st century. Go inside Japan’s esteemed textile printing mills and hear why the finest quilting cotton in the world is currently printed in Japan.

Teresa will also provide a sneak peak into her newest book on Kawaii Applique Quilts from Japan, based on a Japanese culture of cuteness so pervasive it has its own name, and now means almost anything cool, beautiful or nice and has influenced a new genre of quilts.

In October, we look forward to welcoming Sandy Lindal. This is a hybrid meeting hosted at Toronto Botanical Gardens and streamed to our Zoom audience members.

For full details on our programming, activities, and to join or renew membership, please visit https://yhqg.org

Sandy, a former pattern maker/stylist and clothing manufacturer, found her passion when she discovered quilting. She quickly developed her skills into a thriving long-arm quilting business.

Sandy’s trunk show called “Confessions of a Scrapaholic” will take you through a light-hearted journey of quilting with friends and features approximately 45 quilts. She is currently working on a series of quilts and workshops attempting to modernize old stash. This is a very popular concept with guilds and quilters alike, as we all have too much old stash. Sandy loves to encourage quilters to use up and think about their stash in a whole new way.

During covid she ventured out and added BOM Designer to her portfolio and has 2 guild run BOM programs on the market. Sandy recently had a sold out trunk show at Quilt Canada, which confirms her belief that many quilters want to win the stash battle!

This year, Virtual Tuesday will be a "Nesting Robin" that will run for the entirety of the 2026-2027 guild season. The Zoom kick off will be September 8, 2026. Each month, on the second Tuesday, we will have a casual Zoom meet up, (for guild members only) where we will pick the prompts for the next portion of the "You Do You" nesting round robin. You can enjoy a slideshow of members' progress and discuss your design ideas.

With a Nesting Round Robin, you make blocks based on the prompt, in your own time, in your own space. You have complete control over the design, colours. fabrics etc., and the quilt never leaves your home. Everyone makes their own blocks/quilt and shares their ideas and progress with the group.

Have questions? Here is a brief FAQ:
1. What if I don't like the prompts? - Change them or skip them altogether
2. What size will it be finished? That will be a surprise for all of us, you are the designer
3. How do I start? The prompts are intended to be a suggestion, sometimes it helps to have design boundaries.
4. What happens at the end? You have a finished quilt top, or maybe even a quilt!
5. I can't decide what to do? Ask the group, we always have opinions

See you September 8th!
