🌟 *Celebrating the Positive in West Hill!🌟

Last week, the West Hill Community Association hosted a special Youth Recognition & Leadership Awards Program, celebrating young people who are making a positive difference.

Youth were recognized across several categories for their leadership, volunteerism, community service, achievement and positive impact.

It was wonderful to have community leaders, elected officials, Toronto Police, parents, residents, partners and mentors all in one room with one purpose — to celebrate, encourage and invest in our young people.

WHCA President Coach John Emore and the team emphasized the importance of recognizing the many young people who are doing great things and giving them opportunities to lead and succeed.

There may be many stories about the challenges facing youth, but there are also many young people doing amazing things. We want to amplify the good and encourage more youth to lead, serve and make positive choices.

Congratulations to all our award recipients! 👏🏽🏆

🌞 Summer Camp 2026 just keeps getting better!

Beautiful. Classical. Speechless. ✨

Those are the words that best describe today’s incredible performance by two of our amazing Leaders in Training (LITs), who designed and performed a beautiful Kuthu Dance from
Sri Lanka classical dance for our campers.

✨ Girls thrive in spaces where they feel comfortable, valued, and empowered.

The room was filled with excitement, smiles, and applause as the children watched in awe. The kids were filled with joy, and their faces said it all. It was a wonderful celebration of culture, confidence, leadership, and creativity.

We’re especially proud that this was led by participants in our Jays Care Foundation -funded Leaders in Training (LIT) Program, where young leaders are empowered to develop confidence, leadership skills, and give back to their community.

At Coach John Camp, we believe in creating opportunities for young people to lead, express themselves, and inspire others. Today was a perfect example of that.

A heartfelt thank you to our two incredible LITs for sharing your culture and creating a memory our campers won’t soon forget.

☀️ SUMMER IS AROUND THE CORNER! ☀️

As schools close for the summer, children across Canada will be registering for camps, activities, and programs to keep them active, engaged, and learning.

While some families can afford summer camps, many others cannot. At the same time, school food programs that support children throughout the school year are paused until September, creating an additional gap for many children and families.

A huge thank you to Jays Care Foundation for helping make summer accessible for all.

This summer, we will be operating three NO-COST Summer Camp locations across East Scarborough:**

📍 4301 Kingston Road
📍 Joseph Brant Public School
📍 West Hill Collegiate Institute

By removing financial barriers, children from low-income communities can participate in a high-quality summer camp experience at no cost to their families. By delivering camps directly within priority neighbourhood schools and community hubs, we are also reducing transportation barriers that often prevent children from accessing programs.

In addition, campers will receive nutritious snacks throughout the day, helping to support their health, well-being, and ability to fully participate in camp activities.

Through this initiative, hundreds of children will have access to a barrier-free summer experience filled with:

⚾ Baseball
🏀 Basketball
⚽ Soccer
🎨 Arts & Crafts
🌳 Outdoor Adventure & Park Activities
🎬 Movies
💡 Leadership Development
🤝 Team Building & New Friendships
🍎 Nutritious Snacks and Supportive Programming

We are also creating opportunities for teens aged 13 and above through our Leaders in Training (LIT) Program, where young people will gain leadership training, mentorship, volunteer experience, and hands-on opportunities to serve as assistant camp counsellors while developing valuable life and employment skills.

This is not a low-cost program—it is a no-cost program that ensures every child, regardless of family income, has the opportunity to stay active, learn new skills, build confidence, make new friends, and create lasting memories this summer.

Together, we are removing barriers, supporting families, strengthening communities, and investing in the next generation.

As the cost of food and gas continues to rise, our no cost summer camp is helping ensure that children still have access to sports, positive experiences, and a safe place to grow this summer.

☀️ SUMMER CAMP IS COMING! 🏀⚾🎨

Thanks to the incredible support of Jays Care Foundation , over 300 children will have access to barrier-free, no-cost summer camp programs across our various camp locations in Scarborough this summer.

This means families will not have to choose between putting food on the table and giving their children access to meaningful summer opportunities.

Through this program, children will:
✅ Stay active
✅ Build leadership skills
✅ Make new friends
✅ Learn through sports and recreation
✅ Enjoy a safe, fun, enriching, and positive summer environment

For many children, opportunities like this can be life-changing.
