Today marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation — honouring the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities.

It is also an opportunity to reflect on what reconciliation asks of us beyond today. For Restaurants Canada, that includes supporting Indigenous foodservice entrepreneurs through the Indigenous Pavilion at RC Show, now entering its third year, and standing alongside the First Nations Child & Family Caring Society and its advocacy for First Nations children, youth and families.

Hospitality is rooted in bringing people together. With that comes a responsibility to keep listening, learning and building meaningful relationships.

We encourage our community to learn more about Spirit Bear and the Caring Society’s work, and to consider how each of us can participate meaningfully in reconciliation.

80% of Canadians say they’re eating out less often due to rising costs, up from 75% last year. Yet 61% say they’d visit restaurants more often if they had more disposable income.
