OCA is here to answer your common camp questions! Today, we are answering the question: What’s the difference between a camp and an outdoor education centre (OEC)?
A summer camp is a supervised program, often for children and youth, where the focus is on FUN. Campers can learn essential soft skills. Camps may also include programming that teaches hard skills.
An outdoor education centre is a place that facilitates outdoor education, which includes outdoor skills and the environment. They can teach a variety of hard and soft skills.
Summer camps may have outdoor education centres that they operate during the shoulder season, and can incorporate outdoor education principles in their programming. Outdoor education centres may run summer camps during the summer!
For that reason, we list all our camps and outdoor education centres in the same Directory. To find a camp or outdoor education centre, visit our website!

OCA is here to answer your common camp questions! Today, we are answering the question: How do I find a summer camp for my camper?

On our website, we have two ways to find a camp/OEC. First is our "Find a Camp/OEC" search function. This form will help you narrow your search by the following four categories: Format, Location, Features, and Financial.

Some things to consider when narrowing down your search are whether you'd like a day or overnight camp. Also consider the length of time, as camps can offer one-week, two-week, or month-long sessions. Some camps operate the whole summer!

The form will show your camps that match your answers. Not many options coming up? Try broadening your search.

The other way to find a camp is to browse our "Camp and Outdoor Education Centre Directory". All our Accredited Camps and OECs are alphabetically listed here. By clicking on a camp/OECs listing, you will find more information, including their format, activities, and supports!

Once you have picked a few options, reach out to the camp/OEC to check their availability. OCA is not involved with camp registration.

If you happen to be in the Dufferin & Finch area in North York, look out for the OCA billboard! By working with our local Business Improvement Area, DUKE Heights BIA, OCA is raising awareness of camp's positive impact, and the positive impact it has on both campers, staff and volunteers' lives. This exciting outdoor campaign helps us reach new audiences. The billboard will be visible until the end of May 2026.
