June marks Pride Month, a time to recognize the ongoing pursuit of justice and equality, and to celebrate the diversity that strengthens our communities. 🏳️‍🌈

Today, TRCA raises the Pride flag at several of our locations, including Albion Hills Conservation Park, Glen Haffy Conservation Park, Indian Line Campground, and The Village at Black Creek, in support of and solidarity with Two-Spirit, le***an, gay, bisexual, trans, q***r, intersex, and questioning (2SLGBTQ+) communities.

Raising the Pride flag is one way we demonstrate our commitment to fostering inclusive, respectful spaces where everyone feels safe, welcome and valued.

🐦🌾 From the Field: Breeding bird season is here!

Each May marks the start of breeding bird season. In this video, we visit The Meadoway, an important long-term meadow monitoring site in the heart of Scarborough.

Stretching from the Don Valley to the Rouge, The Meadoway is transforming a hydro corridor into valuable meadow habitat and it’s already having a positive impact on local wildlife.

One species we're closely keeping a monitoring eye on is the Savannah Sparrow.

These small, grassland songbirds build their nests on the ground, hidden among meadow plants. Because they nest so low, they’re especially vulnerable to disturbances like off-leash dogs and urban predators. As cities grow, their populations continue to decline.

That’s why spaces like The Meadoway matter. By restoring and protecting meadow habitat, we’re helping create safer places for species like the Savannah Sparrow to breed, raise their young, and thrive.

Keep an eye (and ear) out during your next visit, you might just spot one!

June marks National Indigenous History Month — a time to recognize and reflect on the rich histories, cultures, languages, and enduring contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.

At TRCA, we are privileged to work and learn on Treaty Lands and Traditional Territories of many First Nations. Throughout the month, we recognize the importance of listening, learning, and building respectful relationships with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and artists, whose perspectives and knowledge continue to inform our work.

As we recognize National Indigenous History Month, we remain committed to learning, reflection, and supporting relationships that help shape more inclusive and meaningful approaches to conservation, restoration, and public spaces.

Starting this weekend, there’s a new way to experience the Lake Ontario shoreline! 🌊

This transformed stretch of Mississauga’s waterfront is now the new Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area, a vibrant 26-hectare greenspace creating new opportunities for people and wildlife to connect with nature.

TRCA is proud to have worked in partnership with Credit Valley Conservation, Region of Peel, City of Mississauga - Municipal Government, and City of Toronto to bring this vision to life, restoring a once-degraded shoreline into a thriving natural space.

Starting this Saturday, the public is invited to explore it for themselves. Visitors can experience key wildlife habitat through an expanded network of trails, pathways, bike routes and pedestrian bridges, all designed to support both recreation and conservation.

We’re excited to see the community discover and enjoy this incredible new waterfront space!

Help support bird conservation and research in Toronto!
This , we get a closer look at the Chestnut-sided Warbler, a familiar migrant at the Tommy Thompson Park Bird Research Station (TTPBRS) and beyond.
Every migration season tells a story - help us keep tracking it. The TTPBRS team is excited to celebrate Birdathon’s 50th Anniversary, which will help raise funds for bird conservation at the TTPBRS! Our work, made possible by a large and dedicated team of volunteers, contributes critical data to the study and conservation of migratory birds. Through comprehensive spring and fall migration monitoring, the station tracks bird populations, migration patterns, and ecosystem health along the Lake Ontario Shoreline. Your donation to the team helps support bird conservation at the TTPBRS!
Protect the birds you love. Click on the link in the reel to donate today.
📌 Please note: All bird handling completed at the Tommy Thompson Park Bird Research Station is conducted by trained professionals operating under federal research permits as part of a long-term monitoring program.
